Well I thought it would be fun, as the Ludum dare is coming up, to have a quick 5 min jam to see how my skills are. That was the longest 5 minutes in my whole life! 12 minutes to be precise. When I reached the 5 minute mark I thought "Not a chance, I'll do a 10 minute jam instead" then when I hit the ten minute mark I decided I would go for 15 minutes. At 12 minutes I was done! Here is the end result:
I created all the sprites before I started coding because they are technically not part of coding a game.Controls:Arrows - MoveZ - shootDownload:https://dl.dropbox.com/u/89270405/tiny%20nexus.exe

Seriously, it's actually kinda hard to play with that watermark.Edit: There's a shoot button?! That'll teach me to read the controls next time. Pretty sweet for a 12-minute job. Adding some sound would have helped and been relatively light in terms of time.Using sound never crossed my mind, I'll remember that next time :P
There are, broadly, three legs to a multimedia experience - Light, sound and interactivity. Sound is often forgotten but it's such a subtle and useful tool for engaging the audience.
Let me show you something
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXI-_uzUuU8A 5 minute game jam/challenge is just… kind of silly. There's no rationale for it. If you can't stay motivated for longer than that, god help you.
What a n00b - he could have saved so much time by duplicating those sprites and using the colour replace tool. Also, drag n' drop is waaay faster. Finally, he really should have used the last 8 seconds to adjust the speed of those enemies instead of dicking around playing the game.
Eh I just wanted to see how fast it is possible to create a game and just because I wanted to have a bit of fun :P
