SQUARE / CIRCLE

Hello. In July last year I dropped out of university to take a semester break. I wasted 1.5 years of my life/tuition on a course I didn't enjoy (Bachelor of IT), so I quit. Taking that break was probably the best decision I've made in my adult life. It gave me the opportunity to better myself by working on my art, hobbies, personality and such. In that time I decided that art is going to be my life, so I'm going back to uni next month to study fine art. My goal is to at some point have my work exhibited and eventually sustain myself through sales of my art.

I recently finished this piece, titled SQUARE / CIRCLE. Click for high-res.

This piece took me 50 hours over a month and a half period to complete. It's the first in a series of 3 that I am working on. The 2 subsequent pieces will focus on 2 other combinations of shapes: triangles within circles and squares within triangles.

I spammed this drawing all over Reddit in the relevant subs and got a lot praise there. I've even had people requesting prints or to buy the piece, so I'm going to have to figure out how to do that considering it's all new to me.

Here are a couple of other bits of artwork I've completed recently:

Also I've got a Tumblr where I post my art, if that interests you! It's kind of in shambles at the moment but that may change soon.

Hope you all enjoy!

Also where the shit is V4? >:(

That's really impressive, you should definitely take up those commisions (of course if it takes 50 hours to make one then it's worth £750 or more in man hours alone)

I admire that you plan on being an actual self-supporting artist

Haven't actually got any commissions yet, just offers to buy the piece. However I'm definitely going to try for commissions and that kind of thing when I find the time and have a portfolio built up.

Thanks! Full-time artmaking is honestly a pretty far-off goal unless my art explodes in popularity. Realistically I'll probably be producing art with a small job on the side, until I can make the leap to full-time artist, but that's ok with me because the primary reason I do it is for my own enjoyment.

almost looks african. you've gotten really good at drawing those warped patterns, not an easy thing to do by hand. really glad to hear you've found your calling. :)

I absolutely love this sort of geometric art. It combines the designs and symmetry counterbalanced by a sort of disorganized / 'piled up' feel that I find fascinating.

When I first got acquainted with you I automatically assumed you were an artist type. You're definitely in the right field now.

@Cyrus - I don't think I'll vectorise it, but I may have a go at creating new pieces using vector art for screen-printing purposes.

@DesertFox - Glad you enjoy it; that's what I was going for. Chaos vs Order.
