Macabre

For the past 3 days or so, I've been working on a piece of music that began as a little tune I played on my glockenspiel. Tonight, I've finally gotten it to the point where I'm satisfied enough to consider it finished and would like to share it with all of you.

I've always liked the style of music you'd likely hear in a Tim Burton film, so I let that be my inspiration as I played the glockenspiel. I came up with the tune first glockenspiel tune you hear in the piece and put it into FL Studio where I then put other instruments and melodies together around it to ultimately form what it is today.

I'm not an experienced musician by any stretch of the imagination, and this is actually my first finished track; I made a few smaller, crappier tunes a couple of years ago, but nothing that I considered more than a WIP. It's satisfying to complete something that, to me, sounds somewhat decent. It's definitely not the best and there are most likely tweaks I could make to it now, but I'm not going to do that as it's finished and it's time to move on.

Still, I'd like know what you guys think about it. Keep in mind that I'm done with the track and won't be making anymore adjustments to it, but I still would appreciate the feedback!

This is really good! I really like this music. I listened to the whole thing, and it makes me think that this music could be in an action adventure film that is set in another world but, with kids from our world being the main characters. Please keep this up!

I think I first used FL Studio in… 2009? I never really used it that much, though. I uploaded about 3 short tracks that I never finished that all used preset arps and whatnot to create the tunes/sounds.

Whenever the day before I started working on this track was was the day I got FL Studio again - prior to that I had LMMS that I barely touched. This was the first time I actually went in with an idea for what I was going to do, though.

Sounds good.

It sounds pretty good, RC, especially for someone who's barely used a DAW. If I were to have one point of feedback though, it'd be all in the mastering. I think a more powerful reverb and stereo effect could set a nice background in the lower instruments, and maybe give the higher instruments a little more character.

Great work though. Certainly better than my early escapades in FL Studio where I either relied on the premade synths or really bad orchestral patches.

Mixing and mastering is something I'll definitely have to learn to do in the future.
