I'm broadening my skills!

I am really, its not joke!

I've decided that GM has become a bit boring for me, so I'm going to learn new things…

You can only go so far with GM…

I'm going to be: A LION TAMER!

Nah! not really, but I am going to learn different coding languages…

Since I want to start easy I'm going to learn flash and LUA.

I'm sure you know what flash is,

heck! you'd have to be living in the dark ages to not know what flash is!

I've used flash before you see, you know for a few badly animated flash movies, but I know its got more potential than that!

I already know a few things about flash, like how to make a menu, masks and basic mouse functions, so learning about how to make games in flash shouldn't be too hard right?

I mean looking at it, its not that different form GML, just a bit more complicated,

and slightly tedious [:O]

Anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to find a good tutorial for flash right?

The other language LUA, is really a mixture of GML and C,

Its like GML but more variable and less object based

and its like C because its all in code…

The REAL reason as to why I'm learning LUA is because I can make homebrew games for the PSP!

(PSP's with homebrew capabilities that is, such as firmware's 1.0 and 1.5, and custom firmwares (the DAX's OEs))

Its really alot easier to understand than what I thought it would be…

After I get good on those, I'm thinking about learning C/C++, then I could learn how to make PSP games properly, (as you need the LUAplayer for the PSP to run lua games)

as well as a few PC games.

Heck maybe I'll get one of those special cartriges so I can run homebrew on the DS, then I'll be able to learn how to code for that!

But I'm still wih GM, and I'm staying here at 64Digits and I will eventually release something for you guys to enjoy! [:D]

(With Game Maker of course!)

EDIT: once I get to my other PC, I might post a few links for LUA i.e where to get it, the windows version, and the amazing tutorial I'm using!

That is if anyone's interested!

LUA is also used in Garry's Mod, so you could make some cool stuff for that!

Everyone plays Garry's Mod!

Right?

I swear that's a Monty Python reference.

but of course!

Where would we be without Monty Python?

here's another quote:

I recomend Flash, its very accesable and useful because it runs on all platforms and in browser. But the vector graphics dont always impress.

Usually vector graphics seen in flash animations and games are not that good or just horrible, but if you really get into vectors, you could do beautiful scalable games! Well I can't, i'm not good at graphics, but still… ;)

Flashkit is good, and if I remember correctly, Kirupa is good source for Flash stuff too.

But hey, good luck on learning!
