A bright new idea !!

Posted by RetroVortex on Sept. 12, 2006, 1:53 p.m.

I just had the most amazing idea for my project Pilot.

I first thought about Pilot's story mode being slightly open ended (you fly around a space station and help people/do missions ect), but now I thought of a much better way of doing Pilot's story mode.

Although linear in the sense of not being able to explore areas, I think the game will have more replay value.

What I'm suggesting is a forked mission type story. Basically the game will give you levels you have to do, and levels that are optional, (but doing/not doing will affect the story/later missions) , and some times a choice between two different missions( like a fork in a road…)

I think this is a great idea, becuase it will be different than most space shooters, but there is also a problem:

I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF A STORY!!

Yes, I'm stumped about the story…

I don't have a clue on how to even start the story, (running into cliches unfortunately), so if someone is really good at story ideas (and ideas in general), I would like to get into contact with them, (becuase without a story I can only do mission mode, (which I have no ideas on to expand at the moment…)

Oh another thing, do you guys mind star wars sounds in the game, becuase thats all I got for sounds(its hard to find better sounds (especially lasers/explosions+space is the theme so meh..)

I'm going to re-upload Pilot and put a link here so you can try this version (my best version so far).

EDIT: Here is the link:

Please give some feedback (NOTE: the demo may/may not be the one I submitted here… so tell me if it is..)

EDIT: this version is better than the 8/10 one (version2.5>2.1)

Thank you for your time…

Sounds like a good idea. Starfox for the SNES had a similar sort of thing where you could choose what "path" you took, giving it more replay value.

Yes but I'm going to make mine more 'subtle'…

Like the game asks you a question like "Do you want to save him?"

Then you either press Y or N

in case of Y: goto mission "save Joe"

in case of N: goto mission5 + global.joedead+=1

Star Fox only had this in one area, which was the Black Hole and you could pick between 3 areas. One being R1 Venom, one being R2 Sector-Y, and the final warp leading to R3 Sector-Z. Star Fox 64 had forks in which doing things like stopping the missiles from hitting the Great Fox in Sector-Z would let you go to Area 6, while otherwise you would go to Bolse.

Sorry, I really wanted to say that… NO ONE MENTIONS STAR FOX WITHOUT ME SAYING SOMETHING. >=(

(I gotta use my imagination for once…)
