Mind Challenge Winner!

For those who saw MrPacman's blog on the lateral-thinking-puzzle contest.. I tied with DesertFox. So I got this very neat little badge here. My full respects for DesertFox, I was scared of his ability to beat the crap out of me till the very end (now we're tied, so he also gets the cool badge).

Luckily for me, I answered the only question that nobody could answer (but me of course), and they allowed a point even though It was after time was up… Making me tie with DesertFox at 9 points each. I still feel he was the winner, though. The question that saved my bacon was:

Find the mathematical value of guys. (numerical value)

Now, you had to combine the answers of: "Prove girls are evil." and "Find the mathematical value of pie. (not pi, but pie)". Well.. I figured out the PIE answer by splitting it up. Both PI and E are constants, and times them together, you get "8.53973422". Thus Pie = 8.53973422.

Then, with the "prove girls are evil", i was the only guy to figure it out without researching (though I've taken a look at it on the net now… I was still a little off but I'm surprised that I managed it). I tried to think of what girls cost me… and, well, my ex cost me heaps of money. So I put "Money" into the picture. At the time I was listening to "The Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, and found that each song is kind of about things that make this world go around… there was a song called "money", and another called "time". Then the saying "Time is Money" got put to me. So I thought "yeah, girls are evil because they cost money and time, and time IS money… so they cost moneyX2 which is freaking bad seeing as… MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!" (I remembered that saying when I looked through my Dream THeater collection and found the song "The Root of All Evil"). I got stuck there, I was told to put it into a mathematical equation… But I just played around with a few equations and got hints back, and managed to get it right.

So, finally, I had to find the mathematical equation of Guys. I first thought of "Guys != Girls". As in.. guys are NOT girls. That would mean Girls are Evil, and Guys are Good. I was then told as a hint to "assume pie is good". So I went through things like:

Quote:
> > > > > > > Guys = Girls+Pie

> > > > > > > Girls = Evil

> > > > > > > Pie = Good

> > > > > > >

> > > > > > > Guys = 0!!
and
Quote:
> > > > > > > > > GUYS = Girls+Pie

> > > > > > > > > PIE = 8.53973422 * Money

> > > > > > > > > PIE = 8.53973422 * (root of evil)
But, after the time was up, I was told that the "Guys != Girls" statement was very important, and suddenly realised: Pie = Good, Girls = Evil, therefore Guys = Pie, and Pie = 8.53973422, so Guys = 8.53973422.

That was boring to tell, wasn't it? OH MY! I got a new Dog! He's so cool… He's a 4-year old Cocker Spaniel, and his name is Olly, but he looks like a girl so we call him Princess ,or Alf because he looks like Alf too. But he's really obedient, he's toilet trained and he sits very politely while he's waiting for something… but then he's also really ruthless because he played Tip with me (literally… he ran away from me and I had to chase him, when I tipped him he went back inside), and he played Fetch but fell over. And he slept on my freaking bed!! COOL!

Well, no, there were two questions that could actually count as being questions - 1 and 10. The rest were just stupid questions where you have to speculate to find the "answer". An example of a good logic question would be:

"You are alone in a deserted house at night. You have a lamp, some firewood and a candle, but only one match. Which would you light first?"

The answer is the match.

In some questions you had to use silly "maths" to find the "answer" (such as the evil girl question) and as Rhys himself pointed out to SJF, "it's logic, not mathematical knowledge". Good try but next time make up questions that have definitive answer.

7, 8, and 9 were created by MrPacman and Kenon, so those questions *mightn't* have been as logical…And looking at that Evil-Girl page afterwards, I admit, it wasn't exactly a lateral-thinking puzzle if it was originally a joke. But, that's not to say the questions weren't hard; It took me a day to figure them out.

Haha, well illogical questions with no definitive answer left open only to speculation are quite hard to solve.

Money isn't the root of all evil.

Quote: Holy Bible
1 Timothy 6:10a

For the love of money is the root of all evil:

You should know that Rhys.
