Well, the end of another week, however this one was a little different. I'm not sure how stuff works over in Netherlands or USA or wherever you live, however in Australia, year 10 students get a chance to have "Work Experience". Pretty much for one week we go to a workplace instead of school, and we work… for free (slack huh).
I applied for work experience in tons of computer shops; but they were all "Oh we're too cool to accept work experience". In fact, one time I'd sent in my resume and the manager was like "Wow, very impressive. Come in to the shop sometime and we'll chat."… First thing he said when I went in was "We don't accept work experience students, sorry" then talked for half an hour about how workplaces worked… So AAAAANYWAY I got forms in for work experience at the very last minute…. as a Primary School Teacher. Ok so I wasn't working as a TEACHER, but i was working at a school… as a computer consultant. Gee, it was a lot of tiring work. Easy and Intriguing… but tiring. I got home each day at 3-3:30pm and slept like a log till 7:45am the next day. Oh but it definitely was worth my while… I got to reformat a ton of old junk, got rid of a few viruses, and I even got to go to all 50 computers around the school and assess them for viruses, network/internet connectivity, etc.I also got to clean out a few computers… one had a huge dead spider in it and the computer itself had a fatal Windows 98 error (shell32… pfft)… primary boot was the hard-drive so I had to run around the school figuring out the BIOS password… nobody knew it, so I had to take out the damn motherboard battery and wait till the next day. Well hey all was not lost, i'm writing this blog on that crappy computer right now… with Win 2000; Actually the computer is pretty fast for an old-timer (96 it was made). Seems to run 2000 with ease. Ok, well that was my week. I also got myself Elder Scrolls Oblivion, I'm sure most of you are all drooling over it… Definitely a good game but I'm not much of a gamer so I've only had afew plays of it. I managed also to do some more programming and organizing for Conflict, despite the fact i'm taking a month off programming (way too much school work right now). That's of no problem, the rest of the team are working on the sound and online parts of the game, not core coding as yet, more planning and designing. It was quite interesting visiting my primary school again… so different yet so much the same. All my old teachers are still there, they still have the same phrases… I ain't seen them in 4 years! Wow i've come a long way, I remember on my last year of primary school I setup the network for them… I was friggin 10 or 11! Wow so what am I doin this weekend.. let me think… I'm home alone saturday I might get a friend over.. eat some pizza or something. Aah crap i've got tons of homework too. And studying for Drama. Sheesh; Anyway, better get back to installing MS Word on like a billion computers. Thanks for readin-Rhys
Heh, interesting. My friend got Elder Scrolls a bit back as well, and our friend Fender_Skills is more obsessed with it than Dreaus (friend who got it).
I certainly wouldn't want to have to do that with many computers, boring… =PI've also gotten a lot of school work this week… A script to write up in French, a paragraph for Socials (meh, not hard, but the topic is annoying), a whole science project that's due tommorow and that I'm currently working on now, and a commercial for IT (although it was fun).Thank god I'm not taking part in the 30 hour famine my school is having, or I wouldn't have time to do my homework and I'd be screwed… I would have liked to go because my friend Dreaus is bringing a couple Xboxs with Halo, for system linking.Although, the 30 hour famine would give you more time… since, well, minus eating… But, I really don't think 30 hour famine is a good idea, ever. I mean, sure, it's good to raise money for 3rd-world countries, but the method of doing it is just stupid, not eating for 30-40 hours is really dangerous. Anywayz.
-RhysHehe. I think it's fine, at least you're allowed drinks. But it wouldn't be fine if you didn't eat food to give yourself energy when it was over… *sounds like something I'd do*
All this big people talk is making me hungry… and it's 2:03 in the morning…
Sorry, I just really have nothing else to say on the matter. :PToday the final tests of this trimester ended in ym school =D and I have a free week next week =)
Sounds fun! Kick that virus butt! Lol. I love security (well, when it's on my own computer I ain't to fond).
Speaking of security, there's this rich kid at my school, real annoying because he's always bringing expensive stuff to school, so I'm going to make a program with GM that logs him off and does annoying stuff. Haha.
Haha, I think i've got one of those kids at school too… It's actually quite sad when you get to know him… He laughs at the lamest things then gets confused on the actual jokes… And then at the end of the discussion he randomly asked me "So do you have any porn?"…. I took a few steps back. His laptop just has pictures of planes everywhere, and classical music. Oh yeah, he sings at talent quests, absolutely hilarious.
Hehe. I made a text doc of what I'm going to include into the program… *snickers*
