GC Website

Mmmm! Takua108, Arcalyth, and I (though I've been doing the least work.. at least since I completed the design) have been workin very hard on the new GameCave Website… The same design most of you guys hated, regardless of your comments. HOWEVER, I did make the design smaller (to fit 800X600 resolutions nicely), because the other damn design didn't even fit 1024X768.

It's going to be sweet. We'll be working a proper forum, probably phpBB, that will fit nicely into the website. You can also manage/track servers registered for Conflict: Online (kind of a considering concept still), and any other online games we make. Though, the login system is mainly used for GC Members to be able to post WIP updates, creations, blogs for their profile, etc.

Aside from the GC Website, I've been working on Conflict: Online too (who would've guessed?)… Actually, wait. I *haven't* been working on CO. Because it's been sent off to Arcalyth and CAMD, and it's going to be ripped apart and pieced back together until it's a sweet, online-playable, game. Then it'll go back to me and i'll encrypt the game to death to stop h4x0r!ng (though it'll never be stopped I guess), optimizing the game, and filling in gaps. Finally, we'll implement the sound, all the frontend stuff, and a final check (which could take days) will be done, before we release the final game. Somewhere before then we will be releasing a demo, but you can't be sure of when that'll be, or if it'll be before the final (v1.0).

I planned a LAN Party this weekend! Ah man, I'm not too much of a geek, in the fact I don't have LAN Parties all the time; I have one maybe 4 times a year. The problem is, I rarely play games (except for inspiration), yet when I finally get my hands on Call of Duty at a LAN Party, I pwn everyone. Lucky we're going to be playin FlatOut 2 and AOE III too. Ah man, geeky times, geeky times. So yeah, me and my brother'll be against each other, then the other 4 n00bs can pick a team.

Speaking of my brother, check out his podcast! 2 more episdoes (3 in total): www.pacificrock.com.au/voices. Make sure you listen to them all in order if you've yet to hear the first one. Very cool.

Whats so great about phpBB forums? I find them ugly and I never stay active at one. I prefer InvisionFree.

We can customize it however we want? Chances are we'll be writing our own one anyway… Not sure how Arc and Adam are thinking.

Write your own software - it's easier to customize.

Oh, maybe Ill look into it.

1024 x 768 is standard, and on my huge resolution of my projector 800 x 600 looks tinyyyyyyyy. Thats just me though. The website sounds absolutely amazing, but the design is not :/. There is too much purple and it is all pretty much just one shade. May I suggest breaking it up a little using shadows and stuff and integrate some nice graphics into the header?

its very… bla.

Its just way to bland. You need more colors then purple. Use complements and shades to your advantage!

Ace02, it isn't that bad.

I do think there needs to be some kind of seperation (the white line isn't enough) between all the purple stuff at the top, it just seems like a big purple blob with a rectangle going horizontal and vertical.

The content area needs more work so far as fonts go and the layout. Purple text isn't good when your site is purple. It doesn't draw the eyes, it just looks like its all in one. Instead of trying to get your text to blend in (by using purple), you need it to stand out from the navigation and banner, but ofcourse still look right.

Don't give all your text just one color either, there needs to be visual seperation between texts - i.e giving sub headers a slightly different color, and make them slightly larger using the old header tags too.

It's usually not good to just stick images in clumps of text and have them right or left aligned (unless you have used CSS, then in which case touché), because it usually screws up in different resolutions and browsers and you end up with images everywhere.

I hope you found my critical analysis helpful rather than insulting, but the site does have some potential.
