Well, if you ever use the GMC, you know that the server is practically in meltdown. Finally Yoyo is doing another upgrade!
Except it's a stupid upgrade.They got a new server with 4 times the ram, twice the cores and some more speed, as well as a ton more bandwidth. This is the good part.The stupid part is that they're upgrading the IPB and skin. >( Newer versions of IPB are more secure, sure, but there's only been about one problem with that in the past few years. They added a bunch of social networking things that, for the GMC, are completely pointless. They also want to make the theme 'match the rest of the site' instead of 'looking like it was slapped on as an afterthought.'HAHThey're also very silly about the decompiler. They've suggested disabling the download link and only using instant play (that issue is resolved, the uploader can disable the download link but it's not required) because for some reason they think that will stop people from stealing resources and decompiling. They also want to try and make it non-decompilable, which is pretty much impossible unless they make it really compiled (which they're not doing).
I would care about this, but I hate the GMC. I have two game topics there. A WIP and a Creation. The WIP has about 26 posts. At least 15 of them are mine. The creation topic has 8 posts. 6 of them are mine.
When I used to go there, before I discovered 64D (dark days), I spent a lot of time in the Game Design forum. When I try to go back there, I can't. It is the most pointless place ever. All the questions there can be answered with "it depends".And the Creations forum! Most of the games there have only a link to the game's YYG page. Now, this would be fine, IF downloading actually worked. Why is my download session ALWAYS expired?On a side note, I agree, Instant-Play only won't do anything. Anyone who has a game worth decompiling is going to put it on a few other sites, besides YoYo. In case they haven't realized, there ARE other places to get GM games.Social networking things? Why, so you can ask your friends on FaceBook "what's the bestest final boss four a mmorpg? lolololo!!!". They'd probably reply with "send this letter to everyone you know before midnight or you will get eaten by a goose". Either that, or they'd change their status.
