40/40

Yeah, that's right. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the first-ever Western game to recieve a perfect score in Japan's most respected gaming magazine Famitsu.

…That makes it the 17th game to ever get a perfect score throughout the magazine's entire 26-year run.

Pretty impressive, even if you think that numerical scores are pretty meaningless themselves. I bet Bethesda's feeling pretty proud of themselves.

If you're curious, here's the other 16 games to ever get a perfect score in Famitsu:

Quote:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

2. Soulcalibur

3. Vagrant Story

4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

5. Nintendogs

6. Final Fantasy XII

7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

9. 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de

10. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

11. Monster Hunter Tri

12. Bayonetta

13. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

14. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

15. Pokemon Black and White

16. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Definitely Japan-centric and especially partial to Zelda, but they're all damn good games. Well… except for Nintendogs. But I suppose it's a pretty good pet simulator thingy. I guess. lol

I daresay that list says more bad than good about Skyrim.

The whole list is pretty stupid. Those are obviously not the 17 best games of all time, most of them probably don't make the top 100.

And I don't see why it should be a big deal that a western game should be on there when the western gaming mags have always given Japanese games equal measure.

The Japanese reviewers probably didn't even do any questing, they just collected 100% dragon souls, got to level 100, and completed the main story in third person mode.

Also, I had heard of Bayonetta, but didn't remember what it was, so I went to Google Image. Japan.

Yep.

That's how you play in Japan.

as soon as i seen that i knew this list was shit. tons of Nintendo in there too. not that i don't like Nintendo games but seriously, repetitive cloning is no 10/10.

Screw you Death, FFXII was awesome.

Well, obviously… since what the "best" game are is subjective. And since the list isn't "The 17 Best Games of All-Time", it's the games that just happened to impress all 4 people Famitsu had reviewing the game at the time into each giving it a perfect 10.

It's not really a big deal, it's basically just something Bethesda could brag about. Skyrim happened to be the first western game to get a perfect score in Famitsu, but that doesn't mean that many western games befire it didn't come damn close to getting it.

I can see it not saying much about the goodness of Skyrim, but I fail to see how the list ccould be saying anything negative about Skyrim.

Other than the narrowness of the list, which Skyrim breaks, there's no bad titles on that list. Nintendogs is an odd choice, but just because it's not the type of game I'd play, that doesn't make it invalid.
