So… I've decided to shelve an ambitious feature I was going to implement in Pokemon Purple: Random world generation.
I've got the macro world map generation part nearly complete, but the real difficult part is going to be generating the actual granular in-game map. Not that I'm not capable, but it's just that there are a lot of things to take into account. Which means I'd need to have exceptional forethought when developing it in order to not run into a ton of headaches, and since this would be my first time attempting random world generation on such a scale, I don't think I'm capable of that kind of forethought. So I'd instead need many months of testing and bug squashing in order to make damn sure there are no weird and/or game-ruining bugs with it, and that clashes with my goal of getting this game out by December. So I've decided to shelve the feature for the time being, and just implement some simpler forms of randomness to the world. I'll continue to tinker with world generation on the side, and might release an updated version of Pokemon Purple with it if I get it working satisfactorily.
