Not really, I only hate there failure to make a good Chrono Trigger sequal. Don't you argue, Chrono Cross was POS #1.
When remaking a classic top-down 2d rpg, how do you make it better than it was?3d? Hell no. I'm sick of that.Vector ART! Well sort of. The end results will be pixel graphics, but the procedure will go like thus:sketch->vector->color->spriteWhere is this all going? Well a few weeks back I found an old game I made 5 something years ago using Verge 2.0, a decent tile and script based rpg maker at the time. As of a result of 10 day challange I slapped together a full length rpg with a decent story and average game play. It was kind of buggy in parts, music didn't always play(depended on computer), and some kind of issue with saving or loading…but not both.Reguardless I was happy to finish a full lite-rpg.Unfortunatly I need a stoneage computer to ever run it, but luckily I was able to extract all the old graphics and scripts. The graphics were small, and the monster graphics were kind of crappy due to the time limit I had to finish this project. The story had holes, but it did feature 6 endings which filled in some of them. I think I neglected to mention in it how the conflict in the story originally arose…But anyways, I am remaking it. New graphics, new engine, improved story. Of course the 'engine' in question is GM6.1, which is far superior to VERGE. I considered doing it in Freebasic, but realised I would have to build my own graphics engine…I'll pass on that for now. In its infancy I've created a pretty sweet dialog engine which I shall be sharing with 64Digits community game ran by Juju. The editor for the dialog engine will be made in Freebasic, as it doesn't need any fancy visuals, just array handling and file making. Keeping it small and light on memory. And now for wall of images!Heres a batch of slapped together pictures showing the evolution of some of the graphics in the game, going from crudely drawn images and sprites to sketch. The main character has already been draw in vector, colored, and shrank(just one frame). The rest are sketched and the last is a todo pic. I'll have to had more content later, but I'm starting with the barebones stuff first. I only did half sketches to save time, since I can finish the other half when I do the vector art.And check this out why don't you?
Ooh, nice art. The sketches are especially good.
As nice as the graphics are, Chrono Trigger is perfect. A remake should improve it, and you can't improve upon perfection.
nice stuff. Very clean. You have talent.
