I has engine, almost.

Lighting will change, so will the generic bodies, might have shading on the characters and definatly shadows.

I was going to do something with simple 2d polygons, but things just didn't want to work right, so I was all F___ this S___ D__ and just went the 3d route.

Sprites are of course 2d still.

Light and shadows will be simulated with layers and the levels have shaded vectors as you see after the camera leaves the overlay area.

I plan to have the darkest parts of shadows nearly solid for no visibility.

As for sprite shadows, either ovals or skewed versions of the sprite cast on the floor.

More details as they are invented.

Looks cool, I always had a special place in my heart for games with 3D environment and 2D characters.

Also, from your blog title I thought you were writing this game in LolCode.
