I must be in some kind of coding mood, as a little searching and some inspiration led me to make a RTS map editor.
I stumbled upon Lost Garden, which is a pretty interesting site if your into game making. The owner/artist happened to be giving away some graphics for pretty much free.Then I found one package for a never finished Dune 2 clone type RTS. The original game, Hard Vacuum seemed really ambitious and cool…maybe why it was never done.I have less ambitions but some different ideas to the game type.But first I'm doing my first RTS engine.So far I have the map editor mostly done, and I'm pretty happy with how it is. Maps are a tiny 64kbI was thinking about adding in the map generator, but I'll have to define every tile…which…no thanks not today.So what I have is a decent editor so far.Left button - placeRight button - increase brush size (2-9)Hold Shift - brush modeB - toggle brush modeHold CTRL w/ Brush mode - brush sized stamp from tilesArrow keys - Move around.C - toggle collision map displayShift + F - fill screen with selected tileCTRL + F - fill tile id under cursor with selectedButtons that work…LoadSaveNext BackUpDownDownload hv_revision_med.zip Will comment this video later.
