Backstories

I've been continuing work on my old project "Vagabond PI: Swamp Monster Chronicles." I've discussed it a few times here before. I've written some quick backstories as to the world the game is set in. The actually story of the game doesn't have much of anything to do with these stories, but it explains some stuff in the game. You can read these backstories in a book case in the game actually. Anyhow, please feel free to correct my grammer and spelling as you read these. Each paragraph is found in a seperate book is the meaning for the long paragraphs.

The Cataclysm

Long ago when the numbers of man were plentiful, they were even more foolish than they are today. Bored of the ancient manuscripts, the people of the world wrote their own history. People cast their stones at one another because they were of different origins, thought differently, or simply because fate had given them different hands. They chose single leaders amongst themselves to decide the destinies of entire nations. These events led to another fall of man. The world’s leaders were possessed by the almighty force known as greed. Bent on conquest, they sent their armies against each other. Much war and slaughter followed. Some say the just were slaughtered first. The kings of this war decided to unleash their forbidden weapons. When these weapons were unleashed, the world was scorched by fire. This is the event known as ‘The Cataclysm.’ In the decades that followed, there was little left of the nations of old. These nations soon crumbled as the effects of these forbidden weapons scarred the soil and made it near impossible to grow crops. And so a great famine struck the world. Much death followed. Some say a quarter of what mankind was left from the cataclysm died in the famine. 300 years have passed since the cataclysm now, and none of the nations of old remain. The soil now begins to yield crops again. The retainers of man have formed cities again. They work in a cooperation of not found in the old world. Some scholars have coined the time we live in as ‘The Reconstruction.’ But the question remains what we are reconstructing. Hopefully we are not reconstructing the world of old, for it was a time of vanity and greed and distress among man.

The Vagabond

When the world began its reconstruction, one man stood in the way of the progress. He was simply known as the “The Dragon.â€? The Dragon wished nothing less than pure manipulation of mankind. Another man, whose name was also lost to history, was opposed to the actions of the man known as “The Dragon.â€? The man who opposed The Dragon was known as “The Vagabond.â€? The Vagabond was able to defeat The Dragon using an artifact known as “Michael’s Gun.â€? After The Dragon was defeated, The Vagabond would go on to assist in the reconstruction. He would later form an organization known as “The Vagabonds.â€? Little is known about this group, for they are a secret society. The Vagabonds have been known to take a wide range of jobs ranging from farmer to archaeologist, and even an investigator. They travel from town to town wherever they are needed and assist the people with all they can do.

Michael's Gun

The authenticity of “Michael’s Gunâ€? is often debated among scholars. But generally, even the most critical scholars have accepted its existence. The question still remains as to what Michael’s Gun was. All we know is that The Vagabond claimed the weapon to have been very old, even in the days when he used it (some 300 years ago). The conclusion often drawn is that Michael’s Gun is a piece of technology still functional from the old world. Many have been easy to claim it was one of the forbidden weapons that caused the cataclysm. But this theory is quite flawed. The forbidden weapons possessed nuclear powers, and using one of them would have caused more damage to the environment than Michael’s Gun was said to have. Michael’s Gun laid waste to single person, “The Dragonâ€?, the leader of the new world order during the early days of the reconstruction. Legends say that The Vagabond assembled the weapon from pieces he found throughout rubble of the old world. Michael’s Gun was also said to have fallen from the sky in the old world, but people of the world were not ready to use it until after the cataclysm. Another elusive legends says that the organization known as “The Vagabonds,â€? keeps Michael’s Gun hidden away somewhere. All in all, the artifact has always been shrouded in mystery.

Hm. These sound like pretty interesting back stories, all in all.

The only thing I can suggest is to remove the quotation marks, e.g. "The Dragon" or 'The Cataclysm,' because you have the word "The" in front of it. If it was simply 'Cataclysm', or 'Dragon,' the quotes might fit. I don't know, it just strikes me as a little cheesy. But, that's just about it. I'm nitpicking. :)

There's a typo in the screenshot XD

Yeah I'll definitely take away the quotations now that I look back over stuff.
