Anyone ever play Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for SNES?
I know It was a terrible game, but I remember how you could jump and climb and use a grapple hook thing on the map. This got me thinking, "how did they do that without gravity?" or at least not the built in "gravity" variable used in Game Maker, where an object just moves down, but more like a top-down platformer.
Probably sprite scaling, and a "z height" variable.
They probably coded their own gravity.
