For the past two days or so I've spent nearly ALL of my time working on a new game. I've been calling it Shapes for the time being. I might stick with that name, I might not. Any suggestions for a better one? Anyway, on to description.
:Storyline:This is the kind of game where there's really little to no storyline whatsoever. So instead I'll give you a short run-down about the game. In Shapes, you will play as Nub. Nub is a small, round fellow who enjoys bouncing and a good puzzle. That's right, Shapes is a puzzle platformer. I think that sums it up fairly well.:Game Modes:I haven't quite gotten these nailed down yet, but the primary two will be a Campaign of sorts (naturally) and a Level Editor. The level editor is actually what has been occupying most of my time the last two days, for the simple reason that I need my level system complete before I can actually make the engine. It's just about done now, so I'll be getting to gameplay soon. :p:Gameplay:I plan on the gameplay being pretty typical of platform games. Throw in some spikes, springs/trampolines, doors and switches, and maybe a rocket or two. That's just some stuff I've thought of so far, and I hope to add a lot more as I go.:Graphics:Now, the graphics are what make the game interesting. I'm not using a single sprite or background. That's my goal anyway. Everything in the game (ignoring the possibility of sounds/music) is gonna be code. This is really where the name Shapes came from. I have to say, this has been a bit more difficult than I originally expected, but I'm getting the hang of it. By the time I'm done, I hope to have some decent effects in the game too.:Puzzles/Levels:Here's where I really and truly fail (other than music). Level design. Not just level design, PUZZLE design. So now I have a request for you guys. When I get everything to a workable state, would some of you be willing to make levels for the game? A puzzle game is just no good without decent puzzles, and I know I won't be able to supply much myself.Well, that about covers it. Other than that I've fiddled with trying to get SDL up and running. Gonna start trying some C++ stuff :DShot down 8060 n00bs at time of blog.Hey! I almost forgot. I met my 8k hit count from the last blog :D
I'll try to make some puzzles can't wait to see it finished
I made a game consisting entirely of 1x1 and 2x2 pixel squares.
Juju's response was something along the lines of 'wtf is this shit'.I have to upload that game sometime.@GIL1,
