~Fragments of Retribution~While shooting standard bullets in a spiral pattern, the boss spawns a lot of large bullets, that will circle around before traveling outward.The bullets have ~1,200 HP (that's about 5s of shooting) and when dead will spawn a bunch of blue bullets that will stall a bit, and then travel in different directions.Your cue to stop shooting them is the fact that they'll start flashing blue.The only problem is, if you don't, then you can't really ever damage the Guardian. I don't have that in regards to Lunacy Star, just my composition.I'm not allowed to hate my creations?I mean, it's just that everyone elses' is just so much better.I'm practically tone deaf, and theres no such things as 'harmonies' in my songs, only 'conflicting melodies.'Drum tracks are horribly repetitive.Some parts are inaudible and others are all badly panned so everything sounds a mess.And what happens when I try to prevent things like that?When I actively try to keep a song from repitition and boredom?Well, crap like this, apparently.This is the second version of the practice stage boss theme.I actually go through a lot of iterations of songs before settling on one that I like.There are three versions of the Hydra Fleet boss theme.This is the old final boss theme.This is the new one.And there's probably going to be a third.Because of things like repitition and horrible instrumentation and bad timing and whatnot.I hate to have to justify self-loathing, but come on :PBut… still.If you're uncomfortable with your composition, spend more time with music.
- Listen to music you know is good and take note of what you like about it- Spend hours on a single track, and put lots of work into it- Return to a track every once in a while; chances are it could be improvedI recently learned (from Steven) a new way of creating my harmony tracks. Before that I learned (from Steven as well) how to equalize. And before that I learned (from Xemic) that not everyone will like your tracks. And now I think my composition has improved significantly over even the past few months. I've gone through and remade songs. It's just something you practice at, and getting critical views doesn't hurt either.I spend so much time, actually.
The limitations of the FL demo constrain me to single-sitting compositions, though.The final boss theme posted above (the newer one) took me two and a half hours to make, which vastly outdoes everything else I've done up until then, and since.All of the Lunacy Star songs were made in like 30 minutes each.When I try to emulate bits of what I like in other songs, though, they don't quite live up to the source. It's inevitable while I'm still learning, yes, but it wouldn't hurt to get something good going once in a while :II would suggest a different approach- don't try to be like other people. Build sound from the ground up (no presets, start from sine waves if you can) and try to understand what it is about the timbre that forms emotion. Trust your ears. As with so many other things, it's so much more rewarding to create than to finish. Don't have a destination.
