Dumb Crap About Scoring Systems

Unlisted blog is unlisted.

Anyway, I should spiel about how much I hate scorerunning my game, and that there's nothing much I can do about it without breaking what works.

Those of you who have experience playing Touhou may scoff at that, but whatever.

Let me start with the basics:

Overdrive shots deal 220% regular damage.

Bombing is nullified during Overdrive for the duration of Overdrive.

Dying cancels Overdrive and the accrued bonus is added to your score. The charge pent up from Overdrive is halved, as normal, but with the dying penalty attached, which varies from ship to ship to difficulty.

Timing out Overdrive will result in the pent up charge halving anyway.

If you reach Max Bonus during Overdrive, then you get a 1.5x "Super Bonus."

Grazing is worth a lot of points.

Not the small amount seen in the end-of-stage bonus above.

I mean to say that for about every bullet you graze, you get a point tacked onto the Overdrive Square point value, which starts at 2,000 and is multiplied by the stage.

Overdrive Mode at full charge yields the most points from enemies.

I had 450 charge during Stage 5, and 5,700 graze, which translates into

( 2000 + 5700 ) * 5 = 38,500 points per Point Item.

450 / 20 = 22.5 Seconds of Overdrive

~180 pink enemies * 2 Point Items = 360

~15 green enemies * 6 Point Items = 90

So, um, that's 450 Point Items.

At this point, 900 Extend points is tacked onto the player's total, and the point items themselves yield 17,325,000.

Killing 6 enemies raises the Maximum Charge by one point.

Our Maximum Bonus is now 482.

If the Overdrive Time is under 10 seconds, collecting an Overdrive Square adds 0.15sec to Overdrive Time.

We can assume that this will allow Overdrive to subsist until the enemies in the stage lessen, because that's what happens.

The bonus given to you for timing out Overdrive, or dying as a result of it, is equal to

a * 10 * stage,

where a is equal to the current Charge multiplied by the Maximum Charge, rounded up to the next ten.

Having 450 out of 482 yields ~10,845,000 points.

But having 600 out of 482, such as what I had earlier, nets ~21,690,000, because of the 1.5x addition to the base score if the current Charge exceeds the Maximum Charge, which really would only be possible on Stages 5 and 6.

Assuming I didn't graze and raise the point value during all of the Overdrive, which is literally impossible, 600 Point Items would, as the items, be worth 23,100,000.

Let's factor in the enemies now, which is where things get complex.

Your Bonus Time is continually ticking down.

600 in Time is read by the game as 10 seconds.

The enemy point formula is

( Base Point * ((BonusTime/100) + 0.99) ) rounded to next 10.

At 23 seconds of bonus time, the pink enemies are worth 220,000 each.

Green are 1,331,100.

This averages out as time winds down, so those 195 enemies all put together all probably comprise a little over ten million.

21,690,000 + 23,100,000 + 10,000,000 = 54,790,000.

And I was able to do this twice during the stage.

Qwilderwibben, you haven't seen hax yet.
