Report Card Reprieve, and Zip Files

Posted by Tasm on June 28, 2006, 11:53 p.m.

Yeah, I got my fnal report card of the year today, and I was expecting a pretty bad outcome. Instead, it seems that, like usual, I owned the final exams and brought up all my class averages more than enough to pass and get credit for. The same thing has happened the last two years. I am in fact very smart, but I just don't do the work to show it. The tests show enough, I guess.

I recently downloaded Winzip since I wasn't really thrilled about the zip thing that comes with windows XP (which really doesn't compress files at all). I've been messingwith that for a bit, trying to figure out how to compress my files by 50% like I've seen others do. For now I can only compress 11% of the file size…

Well whatever, I'd better get back to work on my engine for REZ's game. He'll have a stroke if I don't get it done.

Don't run with scissors,

-Mike

For compressing files, I recommend using WinRar or if you prefer freeware, then go for tugzip.

But not everyone has WinRar. I see alot of people get complaints for compressing their games in that format…

And BTW, I have WinZip 10 Pro, so I doubt freeware will be better.

WinRAR FTW. You can compress in ZIP and RAR, and decompress a bunch of others.

The best compression is UHA though, but then you get LOTS of complains about not having support [:)]

But how well can WinRar compress files in ZIP?

I havw winRAR installed - when I right-click the dektop is says "WinRAR Archive" and "WinRAR ZIP Archive" under "new".

So, meh. Get WinRAR.

I meant like how much it compresses files…

what a coincidence, i'm exactly like that, all brains, no work…

plus winrar isn't free, well, only the first 40 days or so it is…

Dosent matter. When the trial is up, it justs shows a 'PLZ REGISTER LOL' message before startup. It still lets you use it…

Good job because the "finals kicked my ass". Not realy it's just a movie quote.

The funniest thing here is that nobody answered Spenser's question.

The truth is, it all depends on what your're compressing. For example, you can barely compress audio files at all, in any format.

Remember, the more compression you get your Zip program to use, the more cpu-consuming it is to unzip it.
