Last year we had to write a sci-fi play which made me happy because I'm good at thing. Anyway here's the results
Narrator: Jim Santon pulls up to the Smith and Son Bank on 3rd Avenue. Realizing he is late he swiftly leaves his car and enters the bank. Santon moves across the bank lobby and enters an elevator. Jim presses two on the elevator control pad and waits as the elevator rises. Sam is in his 30’s. With a face that looked like it has seen too much and a body that looked as if it had not seen sleep in days with ruffled hair and deep bags under his eyes. He wore a black suit and at this time he really wished he could just be wearing shorts and a T-shirt, It was a little too hot for his taste. The elevator stopped and opened to the second floor. (Across the street a black van is watching Jim as he enters the bank.) Hadenson: “He’s inside the bank. Should I follow him?â€? Unknown Voice: “Yesâ€? Narrator: The man was Mark Hadenson, a contract killer. He was employed by an anonymous person. Skeptical at first, Hadenson was going to turn down the contract, he liked to know who his employer was. That was until a million dollars was promised, $500,000 up front and the rest after the job was done. Narrator: The bank seemed to be almost deserted and Hadenson liked this. With less witnesses he would be able to make a quicker escape. Narrator: Jim had realized he was followed about three blocks ago. He was a little suspicious after he made a wrong turn and a black van shadowed his every move. The van was only a couple yards behind him. When he turned down the street with the bank on it, the car stopped and Jim guessed that the driver was putting distance between himself and Jim. Jim waited by his office and waited for the elevator to come up. He planned to go inside when the elevator opened so the follower would be lead into the room. Narrator: Hadenson moved towards the elevator and punched number two on the elevator keypad. There were three floors so he would have to try each one. He just hoped he could find the man. Narrator: Santon watched as the elevator at the end of the hall opened. He turned the knob and walked into his office. Sure that his follower had seen him go into his office, he went over to his desk and pulled out a stun dart pistol fitted with a silencer, which he had removed from a drawer. He was ninety-nine percent sure the man was a contract killer and he intended to shoot him. Even if it was just a poor civilian that was following him, he would have to stun him just to be safe. He would be excused for his actions. He was far too important for the government to do anything to him. At this point in time Jim was above the law. (There was a creak as the door opened and then Jim fired his gun.) (POP,POP.POP) Narrator: Jim let off three shots before ducking under his desk for cover. Narrator: Hadenson dived out of the way and thoughts of why was someone working for a bank armed and why did his employer want this man dead? Hadenson had to recover. It was either his targets life or his own. Hadenson took out a silenced Colt .45 and laid himself flat against the wall and waited. That’s what this was going to be, a waiting contest. Narrator: Jim had an idea of what to do. He crept towards a fire extinguisher. That was his best bet. If he could get his opponent to drop his guard then he could get the upper hand and finish the job. He carefully removed the pin from the extinguisher and found a roll of tape. He squeezed the trigger and the CO2 was released into the air. Quickly Jim taped the handle down and he rolled the fire extinguisher into the hall. He heard coughing and the pop of a silenced gun shot. At least he was right about the person being a contact killer. Now he didn’t feel bad about having to stun the man. Santon quickly raced into the hallway and saw the man choking and sputtering on the CO2. Then opened fire on the would be killer. (POP, POP, POP,) Narrator: Jim unloaded the last of his darts. All the projectiles found their target hitting the man in the chest. Hadenson: â€?I have no regret…â€? Narrator: But Hadenson didn’t finish his sentence as he doubled over falling to the ground knocked out. Jim walked over to the body to make sure the man was completely asleep. Not surprised he found the man was unconscious. Jim walked into his office and dialed a number on his phone. Voice on the telephone: “This is the Sweet Greetings Card Company. Would you like to place an orderâ€?. Narrator: This was a scam. There was no Sweet Greetings Card Company. Well actually there was but it was all a cover up.â€?Jim:â€? I would like 100 cases of get well card number 5â€?. Voice on the telephone: “Please holdâ€?. The phone line clicked and he heard a familiar voice. Another voice: This is the AOD,â€? (administration of defense). Jim: “Hey, Jill sorry I’m late. I ran into some trouble. Can you send a team to recover the body of a person that tried to kill me. I think he was a contract killer. Oh well that’s doesn’t matter at the moment. Where’s General Grey.â€? Jill: “He should be there soon.â€? Narrator: At that moment a man in his 40’s walked into the room. With a pale face and grey hair he looked much older. General Grey: “Jim we must go now. We need to know your plan for those A.I. Robots right know. Russia just launched a large scale strike on our territories. We can’t last in this war much longer. You’d better hope you pull through on this. The fate of the U.S is in your hands! Let’s go I have a car waiting outside.â€?**** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** Narrator: Later at the base of the AOD in a remote location in New Mexico the meeting about Jim’s AI soldiers was about to begin Jim: “Ladies and gentlemenâ€? Began Jim,â€? as you know the Russians have made the best attempts to thwart our penetration through their countries’ boarder. This has been their main priority, defense, but now they’re moving on the offence to win this war. That’s where this comes inâ€?. (Jim pulls a microchip out of his pocket) Jim: “This chip will decide the fate of this war. Now this chip is a complex computer program that gives a robot artificial intelligence, giving us the most powerful fighting machines in the world. While on the offence we will invade Russia with my Super Soldiers.â€? Narrator: Sam White who had been listening patiently raised his hand. Sam was in his mid-20’s with a clean shaven face and dark short cut hair Sam could‘ve been passed off as a teenager. Sam was new to the AOD. His job was to respond to minor disturbances in the war. Jim: “Yes.â€? Sam: “I don’t want to be skeptic but…isn’t there a chance something could go wrong. I mean in every science fiction book I’ve read with AI something goes wrong.â€? Narrator: Sam looked at the man. His face was calm like he had expected the question. Jim: â€? Yes I will be honest, there is the possibility the robots will become to smart for there own good. Narrator: There was a pause as people around the room murmured there disproval. Quick to respond Jim said. Jim: “Although the chance of that happening is slim I have created a self destruct button that will destroy all the chips in the robots. To activate the self destruct all I have to do is press the main shut down control which I have set up in the AOD main control room. There will be only be able to be activated by my genetic code. Now are there any other questionsâ€?? Narrator: The room was quiet until Sam spoke up. Sam: “What happens if you dieâ€?? Jim: “I do have a back up plan but it will be kept secret until a later date. Now anymore questions? No? Good, we will launch the robots tomorrow morning. Good night to you all and be ready to win this warâ€?!**** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** **** Narrator: The next morning the AOD base was abuzz with the excitement of the Super Soldier launch. Sam moved towards a double door and entered a hanger where hundreds of Super Soldiers were lined abreast filling the hanger. They looked like humans but for a face they had a steel plate with no emotion. Sam noticed they had a switch on there neck. He ignored it and continued on his way. These soldiers would be shipped to Russia today and the U.S would win the war. Or so everyone thought, well except for Sam. He was a Sci-fi geek and he seemed unnerved by the whole thing. Whenever he read a Sci-fi book his motto was AI equals bad. Never the less he moved toward a podium where Jim was about to activate the robots. Narrator: Jim’s voice boomed through the hanger as he began his speech. Jim: “Now I know most of you are excepting me to come up here and bore you with a long speech. Believe me if I could I would but I have been notified that Russia has launched another assault and getting these Super Soliders out on the front line is a top priority. Now with out further ado I give you my Super Soldiers.â€? (Jim brought out a small box out of his pocket. He opened the box and pressed a small button inside.) Narrator: There was a whirr of gears starting to turn as the robots started up. Then the worst possible thing happened. The robots went berserk as soon as they were activated. Bullets rained down every where as hundreds of machine guns were being fired. Sam was scrambling for cover and the worst possible thing happened. Sam watched as Jim crumpled to the floor injured. Bleeding from multiple body wounds. Panicking Sam though then he remembered something. Jim‘s voice echoing: “I do have a back up plan…â€? Narrator: Before he knew what he was doing Sam was dodging bullets and diving for the podium. He had to get to Jim before he died. He crouched under the podium. He reached for Jim and was relived to find he was alive. Sam: “Come on buddy what’s that backup plan. Come on don’t die nowâ€?. (Blood gurgled in Jim’s mouth but then Sam heard Jim say.) Jim: “I….have….a Twin…â€? gasping for breath Jim was able to say one last word, Jillâ€?. Narrator: Sam only knew one Jill, and that was the one from reception. Sam thought about where she could be but then a Super Solider found him. The gun was fired but Sam dodged the bullets and his swiped out the Super Soldier’s feet, and he grabbed the gun that had fallen to the floor. He unloaded a couple shoots in to the Super Solider but they had no effect. Sam thought fast. Then he remembered some thing. While the Super Solider was still on the ground Sam reached down and flicked the switch. The face to the Super Solider flew open on a spring loaded hinge exposing wires and circuitry. He opened fire on the exposed wires and the Super Solider went limp. Narrator: Sam looked around. How stupid had he been. He was know standing exposed in a room filled with Super Soldiers. He ran for the nearest exit and was bombarded with bullets. Luckily, only one bullet even touched Sam, just grazing his left arm. Fearing the worst Sam made his way to the AOD main control room. What if Jill was already dead? Sam reached the PA system and yelled into the intercom. Sam: “Jill! Report to the AOD main control room! You are the only person who can stop the robots!â€? Narrator: Sam waited and the door to the control room opened. Half expecting to see Jill, Sam had let his guard down. Jill did not enter the room instead a Super Solider did. The bullets from the soldier couldn’t miss. The projectiles rained down nailing Sam in the arms and legs. In panic Sam dove behind a desk. He was in severe pain but he knew the wounds were only cosmetic. He struggled to stand as he gathered his strength and peered around desk. The Super Solider was moving slowly towards him. Sam then had an idea. He reached into his pocket and brought out a pack of matches. He lit one and looked for anything to catch on fire. Then he saw it. A pile of oily rags in the room left over from clean up. Sam had to break out into the open to reach the rags but it was either die doing nothing or die doing something. Sam sprinted towards the oily rags but the Solider reacted quickly he took aim and shot misaiming and hitting Sam in the legs. Unable to control his balance Sam tripped sending the match into the air. Time seemed to move in slow motion as the match arced through the air miraculously landing on the rags. The rags burned as planned sending fire and smoke up onto the ceiling activating the sprinkler system. The water rained down short circuiting the Super Solider. Sam was pleased but frustrated. He couldn’t move his legs and it seemed that Jill was dead. Sam laid down on the floor waiting to die from blood loss. Then the door opened. Sam thought “ Greatâ€? a Super Solider. Now he can finish me off quickly. Sam looked and found himself looking at Jill, Sam: “Oh, thank God you’re here. You’re the only one who can activate the self-destruct button. You’re Jim‘s twin. You both have the same genetic make-up.â€? Jill: “I’m Jim’s twin…I never…I didn’t know.â€? Sam: “I don’t care just push the button.â€? Narrator: Jill ran over and was about to press the button when two Super Soldiers walked into the room. Before they could get a shot off Jill pressed the button. There was a small crack as the microchips in the robots exploded. Jill looked at Sam. Jill: “Good job, you saved hundreds of lives todayâ€? Sam: “Well we’re just lucky Jim had a twin. By the way what do you think made the machines go haywireâ€?? Jill: “Chances are there’s a mole in the AOD. But that’s a whole different story. So now what? Sam: “Get ready for the Russians. Remember this war isn’t over yet. Come on let’s go look for survivors.â€? Narrator: And with that Sam and Jill left the room. Happy now but not knowing that more ominous things were ahead in their future.
I'm sorry but thats just wayyy to long for me to read :)
