Hey Toast remember when you made that blog called Day 1 implying that you were going to start a new blog series documenting quote "a metroidvania" unquote? And then you didn't blog about anything for several months? Or work on the game at all? What an utterly useless dickhead. You are beyond saving.~So this game I want to make. I want to experiment with the idea of somehow combining the gameplay of a turnbased strategy game with the gameplay of a metroidvania as I don't believe it's been done before and I have a vague notion of how to go about doing it.Style-wise and story-wise and atmosphere-wise and wise-wise I want to take inspiration from JRPGs and put in my spin on it, blending in what I perceive to be elements of my own culture with that of what some other peopls perceive to be nerdy Japanese culture. Or something.I need a coffee break, brb.Ok.I haven't done any coding yet but I think in general it will probably be a good idea to do some gameplay prototyping before I do much more graphics stuff. Because after all, the game part of a game is most of the time the most important bit, surprisingly. I just need to get some basic rough sprites done so that it will be easier to prototype the game. I'm not sure what to code it in but it would be nice to do it in a language I haven't done game programming in yet, to wit, any of them.My working title is The Final Fleet. It's sort of taken from the name of the Final Fantasy series because I guess I'm kind of influenced by that and also taken from the name of The First Fleet of the peoples who first established a British colony in Australia (commonly known as Australians) because I guess I'm kind of influenced by that. Predictably the story will revolve around a journey to some unknown land with colonisation in mind and predictably something unpredictable happens.Anyway here's some woefully unfinished things arranged in a aesthetically pleasing fashion to try and pretend as if it's actually a game and not just a bunch of tiny coloured squares choregraphed to represent shapes.~Quiz: Guess who the inspiration (and indeed the reference picture) for the male character is. Hint 1: there's a hint on this page.Hint 2: The hint mentioned in Hint 1 isn't Hint 1.Hint 3: Existential quantifier "a hint" not ("Hint 1" or "Hint 2" or "Hint 3")~I should write about other things for a change and perhaps I shall but until I might I certainly won't.~Here is another thing. Here is a cat. With a tiny minature dwarf cat cousin.
I've forgotten actually how to construct to grammatical sentence please.
@JuurianChi It WOULDSorta like fire Emblem meets SOTN? :D
Pixel art is getting better, I'll help if you ever need advice/extra graphics or something.also morrissey lawlShh you've given up the game
I'm going to have to make him less devilishly handsome nowWhat if I use this as a referenceI think it is Robert Pattingson because he is a dickhead and I think that that is the clue.
Yes, I realise I wrote Pattingson, but I think that is a far better spelling of his name.I was thinking it'd be like Pokemon.
—>Morrissey used evict.>Aborigine flees.—>Midnight Oil used Pop Single.>It's not very effective. That guy reminds me of David Walliams
@firestormx: My god. That was gold.
I'm liking the portraits. The character sprites definitely scream Castlevania. Looking forward to the next blog.
