The last four sprites remind me of Castlevania enemies (particularly the spider and harpy). If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were working on a game about a berserk viking going on a lady murdering spree at a costume party. 10/10, would guess again.
Nice work though Toast, I think the last two are great. The viking and centaur feel like they could use some of that noisy/dithered shading, but that is just my opinion. Keep em coming however you like :P
I'm actually on the opposite end of the spectrum to aeron - I don't like the noise/dithering as much on the last two and like the style on the first two (Viking and… female adventurer?)
I feel like I'm halfway between Acid and Aeron, in that I like that the noise/dithering is used only where the surface would be textured, like a hairy spider or feathery wings, as opposed to the smooth armour of the viking and the horse skin/fur/hide.
Huh, I was about to comment on the same thing. I personally think the noisy areas are noisy because of high contrast, and while I can understand why they're there (heavily textured areas versus smoothness), I wonder if you can't have the same effect with lower contrast.
Good drawings, though the content (viking and animal girls) isn't quite what I'd expect from Toast. Still, I like mythology, so I wonder if you'd go a little further than pixel art. Also, good proportions and color choice.
I refuse to +1 this blog.
Wut, sudden burst of awesomeness from Toast?
I may or may not have thought the viking was holding a life preserver when I first saw him.The last four sprites remind me of Castlevania enemies (particularly the spider and harpy). I also think the title is a Rez reference.
Considering that Toast is a stand-in for Rez, I don't think that's too far-fetched. Now all he needs to do is make funky music.
