Alright, so in my last blog, I asked what would keep you guys hooked on playing a multiplayer game…and it was stressed that player-to-player interaction is key. Anyways, for the BLOnline 3D, I have a basic 3D engine done (thanks to the help of one of Abacus's 3rd person examples). I have a screeny of what it looks like so far at the bottom of this blog entry.
Now onto the what would you play part. I want to know how you would like gui in a 3D multiplayer game (e.g. what would be the least annoying to play with). I have some of my ideas below, but feel free to tell me your own ideas.1.) Have tabs on the side, top, and bottom of the screen for things such as inventory, stats, chat, etc, to pop out when you click on them. Chat would automatically pop out when you press the enter key as well. The tabs would be partially transparent. Health, experience, etc, would always be displayed on the screen (you wouldn't have to open a tab to see it).2.)Have nothing displayed on the screen except for health, experience, and maybe a few others. When you press a key, a full screen menu would pop up displaying all of the information necessary (inventory, stats, etc).I would probably lean towards the first one, but what would you want? If you have another idea, please tell me. That is about all guys. Lol, I forgot to move the grass plants out of the path before taking the screeny…whatever XD. Later =D.
On the left side, have slide-out tabs. Have them partially transparent until activated or moused over.
Health, exp, etc on the top right. Each tab can be opened into a full window and stuck to the screen, moved around, etc as desired. Same transparency rules as the tabs.Oh, and chat is by default on, but it can be collapsed into a tab and moved around also.
What arc said, but presented in a wittier and all round better manner.
Ok, cool.
I see ST character.
As long as the user brought up the gui anywhere should be fine, but I always liked chat at the bottom. Just make sure all gui is user controlled, other wise it can get annoying fast.
I think it is more ST's fault that the models were the most generic things around
