New Blender Renders/New Blog

Posted by UnionJack on Jan. 14, 2013, 3:29 a.m.

Hey!

Just rendered these guys out. Hot off the press:

http://cgcookie.com/blender/images/interior-architecture/

http://cgcookie.com/blender/images/waiting-room/

Couple of architecturals.

Both done in Blender. Both took an excruciating time to render. Can't wait until the dedicated renderer is set up at work :)

More information on them here (Where my new blog is!):

Great quality.

Have you ever used Indigo Render?

I've only ever used it for Cinema 4D renders, but there isn't any quality gap between the programs when sent through Indigo.

It appears to have improved since I last used it.

I like the giant gummy bear.

I quite like. A wee bit of constructive criticism:

The waiting room image looks a little too crisp (no seams in the left-hand wall or in the hatching # at the top).

I think that's a headless bust.

Not too uncommon in most modern design settings.

It brings a nice bit of color to the design without taking away from the theme.

Damn you, now his render makes me hungry for gummy bears. *searches internet for giant gummy bears*

These look great by the way. You're making me really want to play around in blender rendering, even though I tend to stick to the realtime side of things (shaders, etc.)

It has like, the perfect texture of a gummy bear. I've never seen a statue like that.

Stevenup: Thanks man! yeah. I'm not too happy with a couple of the elements that came out of my rock sink. My dedicated renderer is set up at work now, so maybe tomorrow, I might run a re-render, or at least a re-composite of the image.

JuurianChi: No. I haven't heard much about it. I only ever briefly heard of it once. I might be interested in using a different renderer when the two (Blender's internal renderer, and cycles) I'm using stop giving me the results I'm looking for. The bigger setback is that my experience with external renderers is very limited.

DesertFox: Thanks. yeah I actually had a sheet of glass that the hatching was going to look like it was supporting, but it was doing bad things to the light, and so I opted just to remove it. As for the left wall, if we're talking about the same area, the black framing around the black glass sheet, I was definitely going for a seamless look.

Charlie Carlo: As mentioned earlier it's a model of a bust :/ . I thought about bringing the verts down to give it a v-neck, but ran out of time. The render took a lot longer than what I was intending. Also, I'm afraid Juurian is right, but if you were, I think your avatar would have the perfect reaction :p.

In response to your last post, a nearby town here has this wood furniture and decor shop based on the human body. They have carvings of every shape and size, pose, part, and gender of the body. I also had a big red tall glass vase. I think that was just a marriage of the two

aeron: Thanks man. I'm actually a game developer by trade. This stuff also doubles over onto the game development side of things in that all the decor has to be able to be produced quickly, but also just by virtue of working on scenes, I can recycle everything from them, and turn them into game assets with new materials.

The waiting room looks incredible. The sink (and the lighting on the left wall, a tiny bit) really scream "FAKE", though.
