[V] I saw the future and it was lame

So, I'm late to this party, but I learned something really funny and depressing about twilight princess today. You can easily kill Ganondorf… With the use of just a fishing rod. Easily distracted by shiny objects attached to fishing poles… Ok, now think here. This is a lord of fucking darkness, and he's distracted and killed by a fishing pole… Oh man, how the title "Lord of darkness" went from a badass conquerer to being killed with fishing poles…

Honestly, you guys must have noticed this as well. Back then, in the days of super nintendo and such, when villains had a title as fucking awesome as "Lord of Darkness", they didn't screw around. Today, anyone can slap that on something, even a cheap knockoff of ganon. We need to get back to the retro days, when you fought a final boss, it was pretty damn final. Evil as hell, burns down orphanages in his spare time, and maybe fits in an execution or two in a normal day, and you'd be absolutely frigging crazy, or skilled as hell to take on a villain like that.

Final boss battles weren't mindless slashing, but required actual skills. Take Touhou games for example. Forget the idea that you're battling a bunch of lolita fairy things, and replace all that with big ass demons and shit, and you have yourself a game that means business, and the bullet shitstorms made some damn sense.

I want to try and take this sort of approach to Project : Rebirth somehow. It's hard enough with the AI of some of the enemies, but how does one make a final boss that a character wielding no form of weapons has to kill? I suppose therein lies my real challenge. A badass of a final boss, and you're a little guy that can only jump needs to kill and/or survive this final boss. Hmmm… I think a challenge of survival would make more sense. I smell plot development going on!

Speaking of Rebirth, I've already got like 5 enemies programmed in, the 1st being ridiculously easy to dodge, whereas the final 4 are… Well, pretty damn mean.

But I should get to the important business. I'm in need of 1 or 2 people that can fulfill a single role (Or two, if they feel the need to be that awesome). The primary one being along the lines of a graphics designer. I won't be modest here - I frigging suck at making good and consistent graphics. I lack the patience to do the art well enough. I'm good at simplistic graphics and animating them well enough, but I personally think I need someone superior to make the game get a good feel.

Second, I'm going to need a music designer. I don't need the god of making music, but I need someone that can make some decent 8-bit music. I want to get a sort of 'classic' feel to Rebirth, since it really goes back to basics (In terms of character control, anyway).

That's all I've got to report right now. I think I'm going to program some more elements in, and get a finalized look at the engine.

Until next time,

~V~

Ganondorf, easily distracted by the jig of a fishing pole. This only proves that Ganondorf is part cat.

For your final boss, perhaps have the character run around, dodging all kinds of difficult obstacles, bullets, the boss, and time, triggering some sort of collaspe or some trap? Only to be rewarded by a big squish in the end (you get squished, not the boss?) For art work, show me (PM me?) your style of art, I'll compare it to mine and see how it is.
