Gun Princess 2 - Moar Devlogz

Gosh, just 2 weeks left? Half the deadline left, and around 75% of the stuff I planned left. Why does this always happen? :/ I'll probably do as I normally do: put in a "to be continued" screen somewhere and call it a day, and hope people won't reach it until after they've cast votes on me. =P

So what's happened during the time since last update?

I've spent ages on coding a system that allows for different player characters, each with unique items and weapons and stats and whatnot. I had to remake all player data handling from scratch since I didn't really plan for this (and reused YPE code which wasn't made for it). Once you save your little sister, you'll be able to play as her, and you'll also get a bat sidekick named Kay.

I changed the life system from "one heart = one HP" to a complete Zelda system where each heart is 4 HP. This allowed me to have meaningful but not overpowered defense-raising equipment items; the smallest unit of defence is 0.25 hearts. Also this allowed me to smoothen the difficulty curve a bit, the first enemies you encounter deals 0.5 heart damage, so you can take 6 blows instead of 3.

Trying to add lots of equipment for lots of depth. The cowboy attire and super mario bros. overalls raise the power of your revolver and fireball, respectively, the bikini lets you move as normal underwater but doubles damage you take, ribbons increase your maximal number of hearts, other stuff increases defense or jump attack power, or prevents status aliments, etc. Outfits also change your sprite when worn.

Most of the time has been spent building Batville, the city of bats. It consists of 10-something rooms, and I've only finished the lowtown so far. Each room is filled with NPCs, references to Gun-Princess 1 (and other games I've made) and bad jokes. It's taken lots of time. But it probably pays off in the end.

Now for the next gameplay area: the Submarine Graveyard…

God, I think I've done this for the past three competitions. It's really depressing and I'll have to do it again, but at least I can make it look finished.

Other than that, I'm liking the character style you have going, and your portrait art has improved. Good luck in finishing.
