Polish Your Game

I'd just like to lay down a few concepts for polishing a game here. You know, like the difference between usual GM games and commercial games. I believe there's quite a few definitions you might think of but I'm pretty sure I've got one. Polish is what makes you play it. Not really you, but the general public. The same kid that plays Halo with his friends on Saturday. The same clan that plays Gears on Wednesday over Xbox Live.

And here's a small list of what I think polishes a game, feel free to comment or add to it:

-0 glitches

-persistent rules

-persistent style of graphics

-more data-driven parts

-fitting sfx

-correct grammar and vocabulary

Twisterghost - test it with a group and follow constructive criticism

Yeah, it's hard to say exactly what does it but that's all I can think of now.

PS- A polished blog is not a long one; the reason I don't write long ones is because the majority of people go around commenting on the last line of the blog. In this case, Zipper Head, it seems you've only read the title.

PPS-Hey! Get back up to teh top you bum!

LOL

Once you finish your game, go through it. Then polish it.

You wanna know what a game really needs to go through to polish?

LOTS OF TESTING.

Alpha test it once you have the basic thing down. At least 3 people. Then, take in their suggestions, pump it up a bit. Beta test it with a group of at least 5 people. LISTEN TO THEIR IDEAS. Do not just think about them, PUT IN THE IDEAS. They know what people want to see. Finally, have a pre-release testing of around 4-7 people, to make sure everything is perfect.

Make sure that it has some sort of reason to play, be it a good story or reward or something.
