Soooo… I've started work on a music game a couple weeks back. Word on the street it's a lot like Guitar Hero, and since Keyboard Hero has surfaced, I suppose that's not too far off, then. In any case, I suppose it's a twisted fusion of that and DDR purely through those hold arrow things. So now I've gotta think of a way to stand out.
On the note of standing out, has everyone checked out ViBe yet? grab that sucka before it vanishes off the front page. it's made my track list, and no other WIP can say that. Am I picky, or do i just have a soft spot for really fast games with low-bitrate techno? YOU DECIDE.In any case, I attempted to hunt down the DLL that the author used for the music frequency effects and audio playback, as it was relatively smooth, especially compared to GM's default. That's kinda vital to a beat-driven game (for a good failing example, take a peek at Donkey Konga), and that hiccup has different durations and effects from PC to Pc, and that unpredictability does no good. Sadly, the only link I found was to GMC, and the author of the dll linked to the download in his sig.So, what, GMC signatures aren't visible to guests? What crap is that? i've never heard of such a thing. Thus I hit up ViBe's creator whose name I really should learn, seeing how I keep referring to him/her/it, for the link, and now have to attempt to get the bugger working and look into implementing it into some neat stuff like visuals and proper game work, maybe even some beat sensing, which would help loads with mapping songs. We'll have to see how well i can pull that off.In any case, I could get a very basic engine up at this point for the little game, but as it stands i don't feel there's enough unique about it to make that worthwhile, especially since Keyboard Hero does about the same thing (though a little graphical boost wouldn't hurt, guys. O.o; Gray, black, and white. alooone). So, by my note, one may wonder if mine is prettier. I'd like to think it is, but my color choices are always hotly debated. :B So for all I know it's totally disgusting and nasty.to wrap up, someone's got me hooked up with FTP access to a nice bit of hosting space, so I'll get demos out a bit more often now through the HamstaPowah site and forums. Major updates will make 64D, but i'm not gonna wait up to a week for approval on one or two minor changes, especially since once I get a kick i tend to get enough done in a couple days that that's not even worth the time for me or the people approving my demos. So anyone after new demos of HPE and anything else I'm up to, keep an eye on the site. For those wondering, that would be http://hamstapowah.comicgenesis.com Which is a mouthfull. So on top of the hosting, i think the generous benefactor also registered a proper domain that can, if nothing else, be used as a nice memorable redirect. I've not tested it yet, but that's http;//www.hamstapowah.com whenever it works.Benefactor is Tsukari, who draws a comic called digital Integration. If the boy ever updated, I'd hook you up. :B But, hey, it's linked to from my main page. And while I'm at it, check out Zoology too. ( http://thezoo.comicgenesis.com ) I stumbled across it a week or so back, and it's proven pretty interesting in it's own right.ZX, signing out. D:EDIT: Meh, double reasons here.I'm trying to use SXMS 3, but the thing didn't come with the help file they keep talking about in the readmes, only the super-technical one for the system the wrapper is for. That said, I can't for the life of me get the thing to even properly open and play a song, even copying how they do things and pasting it into my own game. Mayhaps I'm just an idiot, but does anyone have the proper help file? Better yet, does anyone have an expertise with this that would actually be willing to help me out? XDIf I can get it to work, i know it would be incredibly useful.in any case, I've got a screen cap of the thus-far of the previously mentioned music game:http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4438/weavershot1bt7.jpgEDIT 2: So the errors all seem to happening with the dummy object. I don't get what the problem is - every time it tries to reference the DLL itself, it throws a fit and sends me a nasty "unknown variable" error at me, like it's not detecting the DLL, or maybe it even has to do with the order the objects are created. Whatever it is, it's bugging the crap out of me. D:
If you're talking about SXMS, I have it on my computer. I could upload and give.
Also, my avatar is definately getting his groove on.Yes he is. He is teh 1337 DDR Masta, he is.
Also, Obiki_San already hooked me up, but thanks for the offer. :)frets on fire
