Music music music

So we're creeping up on the final week of Pounce's music challenge… and well I've done practically nothing towards the actual theme. Not that I've been completely procrastinating, in fact I've written more material lately than I have in a good while… So in that respect I'd consider the challenge a success even though I've failed to stay on theme (so far!)

I'll actually go back a little further since it's been a while since I've posted any music. Warning: this blog is a wall of music. However most of these are short (<1:00) since I rarely try to finish my tracks it seems, they each tend to just focus on a few ideas. You're looking into my sketchbook :P

December 27 - Stomp

This one started with the bassline, and is pretty much focused on just that. I got a bit lazy on that guitar, sorry it sounds out of tune :S

December 31 - Recall

Just a sketch around a few chords… this was more an experiment around the bassline, though nothing too special

January 2 - Nys

I think this one actually started off as a metal song but I tossed it aside and wrote this. Guess I'm still not confident doing metal haha. It's got a playful theme, sorry a couple parts sound a bit detuned

January 4 - Nos

This one has nice phrasing on the lead guitar, although it's just a loop. Hoping to flesh this one out more. Also, I have no clue where these names come from xD

January 4 - Bow

A short bassline written for two chords. Don't expect this to go anywhere it just loops :P

January 4 - Trace

Wow I was on a spree that day. This one is just one guitar, plus bass and drums. I kept it simple for this and the result is pleasing. Now if only I could write lyrics worth a damn xD

November 20 - Ave

No, I'm not getting these dates wrong, this one is just out of order. I wrote it a while ago but I was using bad drum samples. I more recently tried to re-record it with an acoustic, and though I didn't finish, in the process I rewrote the drum track. So here's the old guitars with the new drums, it's a work in progress like all the rest lol

January 12 - Chu

As far as the challenge goes, this is probably the closest I've gotten to anything remotely mysterious. And to say that is a stretch…

January 13 - Rise

A sketchy ditty. Actually part of a song I started writing, but I'm not done with the words. Maybe I'll finish them and record it soon, but I'm sure this will be rewritten by then.

January 14 - Return

Something I started today. I plan on elaborating this one a lot more.

Yikes. I hope I didn't scare anyone away. If you stuck it through, thank you for listening. I'd be grateful for any feedback you can offer; composition, harmony, mixing, effects, terminology, you name it, I'm listening! Criticism is encouraged, I'm only trying to improve here.

Also, I'm making a mental note here that I should blog more often. I feel like I say that a lot and don't actually do it, so hold it against me this time (yell at me on IRC or something). Ahoy!

Dude these are beautiful. Sounds like a weird mix between RHCP and Breaking Benjamin.

I like Nos the best.

I like 'em! Make some metal music. I have no feedback other than that. Although, that should be all the feedback any musician needs anyway.

I'm looking at YOU, Steven. At least some distorted guitars, double bass pedals, and roaring screams. The screams don't have to be very clear. You could do some old school grind vocals, that are just shrieks and growls to add to the music, so that you can continue to call your music "pieces", and not "songs". ;)

Now I feel like an ass for acknowledging that you were looking for feedback, and I won't give you any (and giving feedback to Steven…Though the feedback to Steven was equally as being-an-ass-ey of me), so I guess I should say that I really like the drums. I don't hear enough music with (relatively) complex drumming on 64D. Enjoyable stuff, overall.

Dude, picking a theme was as half-assed as half-assed can be, on my part. You haven't failed at all. I really love each of these little pieces. I also like that your style changes just a bit in each one; I'm not listening to the same repeated theme throughout. Nice job! I hope you'll come up with something cool and Mystery-related, but honestly, these are all really nice by themselves.

btw, Chu is actually pretty flipping close to being a mystery theme, in those first few seconds.

These are brilliant.

And I appreciate the quality of each one.

Whenever I'm stuck on how to expand on an idea, I try to make adjustments to what exists.

Simple stuff like replacing notes.
