As the very few readers of my blog will know, lately I've been working on a dungeon crawl game. It's finally starting to turn into a viable game, with a tangible goal, a working inventory system, enemies, and all of the basic functionality you'd expect a game like this to have. It finally also has a name: The Infernal Chambers of Misery.
I'd be a liar if I said ICOM wasn't heavily inspired by JTR's excellent Crypts of Despair. I still haven't beaten it, but I've been getting close (floor 25). Anyway, this is what ICOM is looking like so far:The version in this blog is WIP 1c, released 9/29/07. Check my project page for future updates. At the base level, Chambers is a straightforward game. Your goal is to descend to the deepest level of the dungeon and obtain the Skeleton Ring. On your way down you will explore a completely randomly generated dungeon, filled with monsters and treasure. However, you must pay careful attention to your health and energy, because if you run out of either, you will die and your game will be over. Death is unrecoverable. If you'd like to play, you can download WIP 1c here. Be sure to let me know what you think of it. Press F1 in game for a short but helpful writeup on how to play. (If anyone asks why you can't close the window, I'll know you haven't read it)
Either try taking a different passage, or if it's not possible, just attack the spider by colliding with it. It is a better idea to attack the earlier enemies, that way you'll build up your stats for the later levels. If you run away from enemies in the beginning, the ones toward the end will one-kit kill your character.
Yay! Pity I don't have enough time to test it :/
Dang,Troom is bugged
No real innovations on the classic system,eh?Either way, done to a nice level of qualityMan how I love rogue-like games :D
Looks pretty nice.
