I realize this is a much-belated blog (I haven't written any since I left for the summer), but I haven't felt particularly obligated to the GM world since I got back. (Although I suppose I contradict myself.)
Well, I have finally sprung for an LCD monitor. Those of you who recall my 1024x786 screenshots and backgrounds will never again (I hope) have to face such agony. The model I selected was an Acer X193W+BD via Newegg.com.Desk now sans huge CRT: (yes, I know it's cluttered)I bought it on a Labor Day sale impulse, and shortly afterwards feared I had made a terrible mistake, since it advertises "Active Contrast Management". Much to my relief, I find that the contrast ratio is just fine after you turn off the ACM in the embedded OS. It has a resolution of 1680x1050, which is better than the average 19", although the response rate (5ms) is lackluster. At last, I can truly appreciate KDE4 in all it's beauty. I was getting a weary of half my screen browser used up by the UI. The flip side to all these benefits is that I've lost graphics performance, since I didn't (and can't on AGP 4x) upgrade my poky GeForce 6600.I don't really have anything interesting to write about, but I wanted to blog anyway, if for no other reason than to prove that I still exit. I'm way, way behind on everything around here. I didn't even know about the GMC virus until after it was all cleaned up. Will I ever get back into the GM news "industry" (it can hardly be called that around here)? I don't really know, but I do know that Precalculus and Physics aren't waiting around for me to decide, so I shall return to my studies.————————————————On a second note, I just read that Google's news bot picked up a dateless news story from some news website about United Airlines on the verge of bankruptcy (2002). All the other moronic people/bots trotted after the googlbot and ran the story. Eventually it got onto the Bloomberg (electronic stocks trading system) news ticker via some drone at Income Securities Advisors Inc. , and United's stock went from $12 to $3 in a few hours. It's back up around $10 now, but over a billions dollars were lost in the process.
resolution>>>>>>>>>>>>>>eye candy.
Well, for desktop use, gaming is another story. (I can run crysis on very high on 3x3 resolution :O)No, resolution is great for browsing faster and finally using multiple windows (at 1024 most need to be maximized to be useful).
My life changed when I got a 1680x1050 monitor. And I had a dual head card so I didn't have to throw out the old one.
we just through out a desk looking similar to that one :p.
Now I'm about to make a new one that's 3 times as big as that one. I'm getting a new computer soon yay :DI do have two video outs, but a 1024 CRT next to a 1680 LCD just doesn't seem right.
I hate this desk it's true, but it's all I've got right now. I hadn't really thought about building my own, but I suppose I could, although it would probably look like some kind of reject from a modern art consortium."No, resolution is great for browsing faster and finally using multiple windows (at 1024 most need to be maximized to be useful)."
Yes, that's what I said.I love my 24"
Oops, sorry, PY. I can't seem to read today.
Go away, FB. :PI love having bought my 24" for $150.
Now you just need a decent computer.
Oh yeah, throw away that keyboard. XD
