xbox 360 [updated]

I hate this thing… i really do. Out of all my years of collecting every console from Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft (as well as a few Atari and Mattel consoles) i have never had such a problem with a home console.

The original Xbox wasn't as bad but it eventually died after just 4 years of owning it. simply wouldn't power on one day.

Now today, after only having my Xbox 360 for 1 year it's having problems. I rarely ever used the console. Today it started doing the most irritating thing ever. Whenever i play a game for more than 15 mins it randomly freezes. nothing will respond so i have to shut it off. i try boot it up again and after just a short amount of time it does it again. it did it 5 times in a row! i can't play a game like this!

what the fuck do people see in this piece of shit console? it is without a doubt, the worst console i've ever had and i'm not alone in thinking this. after all it is the console with the highest hardware failure rate. I can't put up with this and it's just not acceptable to sell such garbage. some of my friends who owned 360's experienced red rings of death on their consoles. poor suckers got the console on opening day.

I'm really pissed, i'm finally playing Star Ocean 4 and loving it and i can't play it any further because of this! what i'm going to have to do is pawn off this Shitbox and buy the PS3 version of Star Ocean 4 so i can restart the whole game and play it on my PS3, where it can be played as it was intended.

Update: okay after more research on the game freezing issue i have learned something interesting. Apparently it's not the fault of the Xbox 360 and it's actually a bug within the game itself! It is caused by simply casting Silence/Void and missing, when you do this the text "miss" will stay above the target's head the whole battle. Depending on whose head it's on will determine if the game freezes. You can get different results depending on the character it's on and what you do with them; example: swapping the character, character dying, or simply winning the battle. (the "Fury" skill can cause this glitch as well)

A simple fix is to completely disable the skills "silence", "void" and "fury". Though these are very important skills so it is to be expected players will rather take the risk. Also since enemies can still cast these it is still possible that you will still experience freezing.

Players have commented saying that this glitch only occurs when playing in 1080p mode and that if you switch to any other mode it will never happen. This would seem to be the most effect way of avoiding the glitch but at the cost of down-grading the graphics. (still you don't want to risk losing a lot of time since saves can be far apart in this game)

So the end result, it's most likely a bug within the game - though it could also be related to how the 360's gpu handles certain graphics while in 1080p mode.

Console breaks, therefore worst console ever.

I've had my xBox 360 for around 3 years, and I haven't had any problems with it. The thing I don't like about the xBox is Microsoft charges you a monthly fee to play online games, and it does not have a built in wifi card :(. For those reasons I never bought a live account, and usualy buy games on the PS3 since I can play online for free.

I only bought XBox Live when it was on a 2 months for $2 sale. Even then the games I had with online capabilities were barren outside of Crawl of Booty 4.

I haven't run into any problems with my XBox 360, though I haven't been using it much outside of the occasional Otomedius Expert run or some Scott Pilgrim.

agreed. Wii/Ps3 it's free for online and come with wifi. 360 doesn't, instead they want you to pay more money for online and for accessories. BS American business as usual.

yeah? would you want to buy a product that breaks in 1 year? and having said that, only Microsoft consoles broke for me. Not my 20 year old NES, not my 10 year old Dreamcast, not my even my PS1. So if horrible hardware failure doesn't make the console bad, what DOES make a console bad?

Aviators?

I dunno, I've had my xBox since a bit after release and it's only had minimal problems (Bethesda games freezing, which is more of a feature of Bethesda games than a problem with the console). I've never had Live Gold, I didn't even know about that bullshit until after my family already had the xBox. Although, online multiplayer isn't really something that interests me, which sucks because same-console multiplayer is being phased out of existence.

Yes. I've had Guitar Hero guitars break within an hour, an ipod break after a week, and a Dreamcast that had broken audio the moment it turned on. Those are all great things that just had the misfortune of breaking very early. I bought a new guitar and it's been fine for a year, my replacement ipod works (though it had a random hardware failure, it got fixed though), and the replacement Dreamcast is still operable.

My xbox (original, not slim) has survived over 4 or 5 years now. It was in a poorly ventilated spot for years (my house is usually 84 degrees during the summer, so it probably was hot quite often), and I've left it on for days without turning it off plenty of times. It works perfectly. Even if it had broke, I'd still disagree with you. You sound a bit silly with how overly mad towards Microsoft you've gotten because of this.

Note: I do not hate the PS3 nor do I hold an opinion on which is better.

Edit: I sold my Gamecube to Kabob a couple weeks before it broke.

After years of hating Microsoft for their creation, I've recently discovered the joys of the Xbox series.

Needless to say.

This blog has me feeling a bit torn.

My Xbox started doing the freezing about a week before it got the dreaded General Hardware Failure…

When I opened it up I noticed that the RAM chips did not, in fact, have heat sinks of any kind on them.

Luckily that was fixed by 8 pennies, some thermal paste, and a warm towel. Hasn't failed since.

Disc tray's a bit sticky, though.

Yeah, right? I always have to hit the top of the console at a precise time after pressing the disk tray button in order to get it to come out.

I think of that more as a fun feature than a hardware problem.

are you insane? even though the disc tray won't come out on your console, you won't think negatively towards it? it seems Americans have just gotten so used to broken hardware that it doesn't register with them anymore but the worst part is that people will still defend these things that do not deserve such praise.

Yes
and this proves my above statement. The fact people actually desire broken hardware shows that there's something a bit wrong with our consumer culture…

I checked Gamestop's website and they don't have Star Ocean 4 on PS3 anywhere within 10 miles of me so it looks like i'm screwed. I'm gonna have to BUY a whole new Xbox just to play one game. WTF…
