Brutal Mods

So I've been playing a lot of mods lately. Some good, many bad. I tried mods from Minecraft, Half-Life, Amnesia, Source, Doom and Serious Sam.

Now my all time favorite mod (and i've probably said this many times) is Cry of Fear which is a Half-Life mod that is a complete re-design into it's own game. it's a first person horror game and it's defiantly one of the best horror games ever made. If you like Silent Hill or Amnesia than this game is for you. (it is a little buggy but the original Half-Life engine is quite old)

Next on my list is Brutal Doom. Oh man i am having so much fun with this. I'm loving it. It really breathes new life into an old game. I love Doom by it's self but the extra gore, blood and weapons defiantly makes the experience even better. All Doom fans must try this mod. (requires GZdoom which i recommend anyway)

No More Room In Hell is a Half-Life 2 mod that's got a delightful concept. A true survival horror experience. You and a team of online players must survive against an infinite hoard of zombies. It is very realistic in that you don't get to carry around rocket launchers and 300 bullets. You barely find any ammo or guns in this game and you often have to use pipes, knives and sticks to fight off the undead. It's extremely difficult. You only get 1 life and once all of your team mates are killed, it's Game Over. You can expect to die a lot. In fact i've never completed a level. You also stand no chance alone so play with as many people as you can. The current version is still pretty rough around the edges, very low quality in the physics and such but they are working on a new version that should be released on Steam (hopefully) through Greenlight.

I'll also mention Nightmare House 2 a decent horror mod for Half-Life 2. Not as good as Cry of Fear but it's pretty good in gameplay. Much more polished.

So does anyone have any other great mods they can comment on?

Oh I thought you were complaining about moderators.

Some of these sound pretty interesting, I'll have to download :)

I remember playing the They Hunger series and really enjoying em, despite the aging graphics. It made me really want to play with the goldsrc engine.

Brutal Doom looks interesting, but if I start playing Doom, I won't stop until my ears bleed from the repetitive sound effects.

I think I've heard of Cry of Fear, in any case, I recognise the concept art.

Good mods? Quake 1 + Tenebrae (Doom 3 lightning engine) + hi-rest textures = what Doom 3 should have been!

That Quake mod looks cool :3

Can you share a link for that? The engine's site doesn't work at all and google is being useless as always. ( type "tenebrae download" i get links to download Adobe :D )

EDIT: found a download but can't get it to work. Installed in Quake directory (and i have GlQuake) but when i run the Tenebrae_launch and set all the settings than run, it just crashes every time.

The reason I shared a YT link is because I'm not sure where to get it myself :< I played that before I got this PC and Windows 7, so…

Since you mentioned Source, the mod Elevator: Source is . . . an experience.

Oh i think i found an even better mod. The Dark Places mod for Quake adds tons of special effects, better lighting and shadows, and various other improvements like easy video settings. I also got the high resolution texture pack, now it's looking good :3

Download Dark Places - Download Texture Pack (requires account)

i did eventually find a version of Tenebrae that works but Dark Places just seemed much easier to set up. The lighting is probably better in Tenebrae but DP's lighting is good enough too. There's also a DPmod that adds better lighting but i couldn't get it to work.
