Online Highscores?

Posted by elmernite on Nov. 8, 2006, 7:37 p.m.

I'm still working on my topdown shooter. It's coming along alright. I don't have as much time as I would like to work on it. (Busy with life in general) However, when I do ge tthe chance the game comes along nicely. I haven't really gotten to much into the game play and am still working mostly on the effects and such.

I do know it will be one life only, no second chances, no health, nothing. One hit and your dead. Enter your highscore.

While I'm talking about highscores, What is everyones opinion about them? Do you use them? Are they worth the hassle? Would having highscores effect your downloading or enjoying the game? It is possable for me to have highscores for this game, but if no one really considers them to be worth it I won't even bother to look into it.

Otherwise, I'll just keep on ploding along.

Online highscores are great. And speaking of them, I'm starting a neat little highscore service at the moment. I still need to finish coding the GML and PHP though.

Online highscores are great, they add a lot of replay value to any game. They also get higher ratings usually.

I think high scores can be a good addition, but you should make it something worth trying to achieve, and not something that people who simply have more time to play will dominate.

Alright then, I guess I'll go ahead and shoot for them then when I get that far. You made a good point FredFredrickson. I'll have to try and remember that when I'm balancing the game.
