Another Project For The Creative

Posted by gamehawk on July 1, 2006, 3:55 p.m.

Along with "Murder in the Night", the highly anticipated adventure game shown at E3 ([:P]), I'm working on a little side-project too. It's not a game, it's a program. A lot of users not just here, but everywhere, like writing and drawing. So I'm designing a program to work as an E-Book maker and allow creators of short stories to create an E-Book, and export it to HTML. I am thinking about having my website so that users can upload their story, and have accounts. It's going to be simple, but it could help showcase some talent among users and make it easier for those without Internet skills. The upside is that the users might not want to use word, which would make it less eye friendly and easier to steal, or PowerPoint, which many users don't have. I think this program is going to be really cool and fun. I also think users will benefit from the creative expierence of writing and reading literature, plus it's free so that kind of helps. Coding wise, I'm making some custom scripts for a better interface. E.G.: Show_menu function with pictures. I'm getting started on it and so far you can import text from text files. It shouldn't be too hard to program, but I think the benefits will be huge. As for the other project, I already told you it's coming along great and I have a deadline. The engine is complete and all I have to do is add the elements (the objects and graphics that go with the story), then of course I'll have the cheats and extra feature's that you all will surely love [;)]!

Wow… what are you going to name the program. It sounds like it will be a success if it turns out how I think it will.

Thanks MGA, by the way Theonlywonderboy, I did comment on your second to last blog on your point and click game. Did you maybe get that idea from my adventure game. If you did, that's cool, but I don't want our games to turn out too similar. Friendly competition between similiar genre's (like the Platformed and Rez 2 thing), that's cool. Just I don't want our games to be ya' know too close. Genre wise is okay, but we need different feautres objectives and storylines. An advantage to this is inspiration from one another (I'm sure Kenon and Rez have shared around some idea's with their platformers that have given each other inspiration).

Cheers and Good Luck,

cool now we can write programming books and easily get feedback on possible storylines.
