What I've been working on recently.

(Super-recently, in fact.)

It started when I was messing around with Conway's Game of Life settings…

All the original posts are here, but I'll post some new stuff on here as well.

So basically it started with just accidentally creating something that looked like it could be used as a map in a game. I decided to add on to it a bit, save it, and leave it like that for the night. The next night I cam back with ideas.

I sectioned out the map, and started making it smoother. In the same night I also created some music (it turned out mediocre) with the title "The Saddest Mile." I then proceeded to take all of the feeling from the song and title and come up with a story.

I'm still not done with that, but as I worked on it in m head, I started making graphics for the player, deciding for certain that I wanted this to be a platformer. They came out exceptional (to me) and I began programming. Stuff happened and I got to music, and then I noticed not only can you not bring volume back up in gamemaker, but there's absolutely no pausing of audio either. So I gave up on that front, couldn't find a suitable extension for the audio types I wanted, and decided to go with Bassmod. It's been working well, can pause as I need it to, and I'm certainly getting better with milkytracker.

So I currently have about 2/3 of the story written, and once I have that done I'm going to start programming basic enemies, and begin actually mapping out the game.

For anyone who actually reads the blog I posted above, I've decided on the name Nimor.

Also, in an important note: When the time comes for testing, I'd like to release a special testing version to just members of 64digits.

Anyway, there's a lot more I could get into about it, but overall I've said the most pressing things about it.

Game looks good so far.

You should call it Finding Nimor.

I'd love to help test this.

Might I suggest Bass.dll (a.k.a BGM). There's a GMC topic here. I used it for a game a while back, you can do some really cool things with it.

I have some sort of anti-feeling against all DLLs that don't explicitly allow me to sell games made with them, even though I've actually never even tried selling a game. Perhaps I don't want to end up in a situation where I can't use something I've started to rely on.

It doesn't give you more control, but you can use Windows XP's Sound Recorder to save WAV files as MP3-encoded WAV files (aka they're WAV files on the outside, but MP3s in the inside). The main use is that you can use chorus/reverb/3D sounds with such MP3s, while normal MP3 files can't.

Yaru; Well it's *extremely* important to me to be able to either pause the music, or have it fade out and back in, so that isn't too helpful, but thanks, I'll keep that feature in mind for future endeavors! :D (Plus I don't plan on selling this game at the moment but I'll definitely keep that in mind. I don't often use dlls/extensions.)

Also; Juju, I'm using bassmod mainly because I'm in GM8 (it says dll so I'm assuming a lack of extension files) right now and would prefer things to be as integrated as possible. Were I in 6.1 on my XP machine (yes, I still code in 6.1 XD) I'd use it for certain. And at this point I'm preferring XM/MOD to mp3 anyway. I'll keep that handy, though, thanks! :D

Messiah Wolf; Thanks as well :3

The current version of the script is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y1eNZOobRAvj9yaYysv5QPFkd5QkxmDK65Hd7T5lY1k/edit

For anyone interested. Insight and criticism is much appreciated!

For some bizarre reason I really love the music as is.
