Hello people of 64Digits. Today I am not posting another top 5. I will do that another day. Right now I am going to have my say on something that everyone has been talking about since 2006, "Who will win this console wars?". Before I answer that question I have to look at one of the most important parts of any war, the games. Not just any games, the making and cementing games.
What are making and cementing games? These are exclusive games that help establish the consoles position in the marketplace as well as giving the fans and companies bragging rights on what is best. Making games are usually the first games that come on the console, launch titles or titles that at least make people by the console just to play the game. Usually such game have a lot of replay value to distract the consumers long enough for the cementing games to be made. The cementing game is the game that makes the consumer happy he purchased the console, the mega hit that is usually (but not always) better than the making game. They are the ultra polished games that you will recommend your grand children play.Again, before I go into this generation of consoles, let me start in a time when console war was law. THE 16 BIT ERA.If recall, this was the fiercest console war of all time. Sega and Nintendo were trying to kill each other with every trick in the book. Sega had good games and so did nintendo. However, Nintendo won. Sega's making game was on sonic. He was a launch title, really fun to play and sold millions of copies, Unfortunately the genesis, didn't have a cementing game (unless if you call sonic CD a cementing game and it doesn't count cos the Sega cd didn't sell). Nintendo's making game was Super mario world. What is there to say about mario world. It is one of the best games of all time (I will make a top 50). The cementing game is, of course, Donkey Kong country (and maybe final fantasy 6). These games are wonderful, selling millions of copies and encouraging the many 3rd party developers to make games for the Snes since mario already made it sell millions of units.WINNER: SNES THE 32 BIT ERAOK, this was a hard one to do, with the very many consoles out there, 3DO, PS1, N64, Saturn, etc. Let me get the poo out of the way first. 3DO, Jaguar and Amiga CD-32 sucked. They had no making games (let alone cementing games) and the saturn was so hard to work with (what kind of an idiot makes a system with 2 CPU's). As for the N64, the maker was none other than Mario 64. This is the ONLY reason people bought the N64(other than mario kart 64). The cementing games wher Goldeneye and ocarina of time, another greatest games of all time. Unfortunately, the N64 was not a CD based console, forcing Square to bail from Nintendo and make FF7 for the Playstation. This was the making game for the PS1, and the cementing game was Metal gear. That, and the fact that it was easier to make games for the PS1 made them win the war.WINNER: PS1 THE sixth-generation eraThis had to he the most lucrative era of all. Games had matured and the average gamer was 29 years old. This was the time sega died, and microsoft arose (seemingly out of nowhere). Nintendo lost this war for being a kiddie company, but they had not given up. There making (and in some cases cementing) game was Smash Bros Melee, the 3rd best selling. The cementing game was Metriod prime, but this was unfortunately not the best FPS of all time, or even of the time. The best was the Xbox's Halo and was cemented with Halo 2. But why own a Xbox if you don't own these games? Most of them are on the PS2 anyway. Apart from those, the making game was Devil may cry (as well as DOA, MGS2 And FFX making it the console with the most critically acclaimed games other than PC but that doesn't count) and the cementing game was, well in my opinion God of war, even though it had sequels to almost every game that came out on it.WINNER: PS2. NOWGEN eraNow the console wars is heating up and the cementing games are yet to come so now let is see the games making the consoles today. The Xbox 360 had Elder scrolls oblivion, but when the PS3 came out it went out of favor because it was not an exclusive. The true making games where bioshock and Halo 3(and Blue Dragon in japan), both critical and commercial successes. The PS3 has been unlucky, the only makers I am expecting are MGS4 and FF 13(it was originally lair, but it sucked). As for the Wii, I think it has already won. It has out sold the Xbox and PS3 combined and already has Twilight princess as its making game. The cementing game may be smash bros brawl, but who knows, what sleeper hits may arise this Christmas, after all, the war is just beginning..[Mazi] Console wars(making and cementing games)

@ phazon yoshi:
I see you have forgotten that they are both FPS's, and the only difference is the gameplay. Most dumb idiots know that, unless you are blind. And Zelda is an action adventure, NOT AN RPG!I'd have to disagree that the 6th gen and 32bit systems really had a single winner.
The PS1 and N64 really I would say are on near equal footing, just due to the standard Nintendo had made for itself with it's other games. I would call that the closest, and even if PS1 won, it was by a small margin. The 6th gen, I can see where you can see that PS2 wins. I mean, it was cheap, had good games, and turned the console's name from "Nintendo" to "Playstation". But nowadays, the competition isn't about killing each other; it's about getting money. The "Winner" if you could claim there was one would be PS2, just because of it's Huuuuuge library.Nowadays, things are crazy. It would be impossible to call it a war, as the companies are definately not going to go the way of Sega. Each one has a very secure standing, and even the weak library of the PS3 isn't killing them. The Wii is winning in terms of units in demand clearly, but I'd go with 360 right now if there was a current winner. It's library is filled with great games that many people love. But I can't classify a winner until it is over. But alas, PC destroys them all XD.Hmm, your right.
I have to put it this wayPS3: Strength - most powerful consoleweakness - least number of games, TOOO expensive.Wii: Strength - Innovative, cheap and fun.weakness - Hardly any hardcore games(that are not from nintendo).Xbox: Strength - Near perfect balance of the two, for hardcore.Weakness - No 360's in japan!I would have put the PC here but it is so versatile.PS3:
Strength- Cheap as hell Blu-ray player, about half or one third the price of a normal oneweakenss-weight, library and price for consoleWiiStrength- Cheap, Small, Free Internet, Virtual Console, largest libraryWeakness- Most third party games are quick cash-insXbox360:Strength- Availability, Cheap price for great graphics, Nice Layout, Great OnlineWeakness- Japan isn't conquered, Online isn't free, you have to pretty much buy online content if you want to play the game to its full potential. You forgot to mention the Ratchet and Clank/Jak series on ps2!? D=
And Gran Turismo, I know GT3 has sold a shitload of copies.I also like how no one states a weakness of the 360 as the 33% failure rate lol *hopes 360 doesn't break* (in b4 idort)And there isn't that much of a weight difference for the 360 and ps3, 10-11lbs v.s. 7-8lbs, I mean, come on, how often do you lift your console, and if you can't lift 10-11lbs, you fail at life. hard. And PS3 has free internet, too. Largest library for wii? Are you including the virtual console library? If so it would be fair to include most ps1 and ps2 games…Every game on PC is better than a console equivalent, unless it's a fucking port.
MP is officially classed as an 'FPA' Adventure, not shooter.
Sure, you have a gun, but the focus is on exploration, and you don't even have to aim!FF and Zelda look similar, that's the point I was making, but their play-mechanics are very very differant, yeah?MP3 is far more enjoyable to me than a PC FPS (Yes, MP3 is an FPS now), becuase of the level of immersion. Commere you flying robot thing, subconciouly fire the grapple lasso, game over for the 'bot.
