Alright.Time for some payback. I have been absent for so long, TOO LONG. And need some traffic to feel like I am accomplishing something. I have been working really hard in the real world and will return to nigeria in july (yeah, naija chicks, finally). Now for some updates
Square game———————Coming along quite smoothly, if all things go well, I might have a demo ready by the end of the month. So far only Gamerhippo7 has played the game so don't cry "need demo now!!" cos I won't listen. Now oddle the screenshots.Top 5 game stages———————————In every game must have at least one level, room or area that must be played. Without these there can be no game. Wither it be a single stage casual game or a large open world type game, there are always areas that follow a particular them. This list is a dedication to those games that chose to spit at the generic (there are no desert, forest, factory, or cave stagers here) just the ones that stretch the imagination of the designer to the limit, or at least to an extent. Criteria: The areas must be themed, they must not be overworlds (sorry hyrule and mushroom kingdom), and must allow the player to directly interact with it.5. Black mesa (half life):Rarely does a first person shooter make stages truly come alive, and rarer still do they actually make the player care that it is more than just a place to shoot baddies. Valve did a fine job with the overall atmosphere created after the resonance cascade. It felt like a real place falling apart. The rules of immersion may have been written by system shock, but half life perfected those rules.4. Giant Land (Mario bros 3)WTF, a giant goomba? Holy shit. The first time you saw that stage, you had a a lasting impression. Who ever thought this up had to have been high (seriously, the NES had limited storage capacity). Mario 64 tried to revisit the spirit with it's "tiny big island" stage , but none could top the shock and awe that came with killing a giant koopa, then throwing it's shell at a giant hammer bros.3. Liberty city (GTA 3)A game that finally allows you to steal cars, pick up hookers and murder them afterwards. My kind of game. Alittle anticitizen would have been nice but you can't get it all. OK some my disagree that this counts as a stage, I beg to differ. Can you interact with the environment, yes. Does it have an overworld, no. Therefore it is a stage.2. Jabu-Jabu (zelda: ocarina of time)I knew that there would be a water themed stage in this N64 classic, I didn't think it would take place in the belly of a giant whale. What surprises me is that the whale is bigger than the deku tree on the inside, but smaller than the 2nd boss on the outside. Oh well, to bad it's a good guy, if not I would pull out my spread gun and shoot it's heart till it explodes (ahh contra). 1. All the stages(psychonauts)This game is an example of why games are good. You have no limits to your imagination. Tim Schafer's critically acclaimed masterpiece is one you must play now. Buy steam, forkup some cash, attack gamestop or something, you must get this game. The stages are just too wacky.Notable mentions:Read falcon (contra)Rainbow road (mario kart)Some stages in the original NiGHTS into dreamsQuestions:1. I am getting frustrated making my game myself. If you want to make a game open-source how do to go about it?2. Where are you game making talents strongest(design?, graphics, Story?, etc)?3. What's the funniest game you ever played
1. Just make sure it's not confusing as hell for the player to modify.
2. Eh, probaly graphics, I'm awful at math and there are much better coders here.3. Oddworld or WarioWare, Ciribotics would be on the list, Luda just needs to get a spriter.Slick, Juju.
1)Save as - upload :P2)Programming, by far. I can't design levels, I'm rubbish at spriting, and I can never translate my story to the screen. Not too shabby at brainstorming, even if I do say so myself!1. Make sure the source is well-commented.
2. Programming. I can't draw very well, and don't really like drawing. I guess I'm okay at design, but I really don't enjoy level design. I'm pretty good with stories, just neither of my two released games have much of a plot. Oh, and I can't do music. I have two left ears.3. Probably the new Sam & Max games. They're not side-splittingly funny, but they have very clever humour.1. Do you mean you we can rip its insides out or so others can help? If you want others helps then do an invitation system to good coders or something?
2. Design, its the only thing I have ever managed to get finished, I get so many ideas that I get fed up with what im working with. Its only after the past week I discovered my true coding capabilities. I am also pretty above average at graphics. My problem is that I don't like any of my own stuff.3. Hmm…
