Hey 64 digits. I'm sure you guys already know, but I will say it anyway. THE GM LOGO HAS BEEN CHANGED. I give konos to FredFredrickson (who is absent from the community these days, god bless his soul for his games). and Sandy Duncan for listening to the community.
It has been a long time since I made a top 5 list. Here goes.Top 5 deceased game legendsThe game industry is an ever changing environment, with trends and systems being popular one minute and then instantly discarded the next. A notable news magazine called the industry the most unstable in the world, because of the rate both new and old companies open and close their doors, wither it be due to lack of funding or the like.In the 30+ years the industry has been around, we have seen many memorable names, companies, characters and personalties come and go, leaving a lasting impression in their wake. So here is my top 5 list of gaming legends that my never be seen again.NOTE: This list does not include items that are either in hiatus(eg Starcraft Ghost) or or have potential to exist in the future (such as Rare making Perfect Dark 2)5. Abe (and the Oddworld series)Back in the day, the platformer genre was undergoing tremendous change, with many games inventing mechanics that have today become industry staples. The guys at Oddworld Inhabitants created a puzzle platformer so ground breaking, it won several accolades from top publications. This propelled the team into super stardom and made Abe a house hold name. Sadly, the adventures of our favorite Mudokon have faded into obscurity and the long promised final game to the Oddworld pentalogy doesn't seem to be in the works. Heck, the oddworld site has been under construction since 20064. PandemicHuge, sparling, open worlds? Massive spectacular explosions? Tons of cool guns? Destructible environment? Sounds like a Pandemic game to me. One of the pioneers of Havoc physics, they made some of the coolest looking games (on the PS2 anyway. The crap they put on the XBOX 360 suck ass) including the brilliant Star Wars: Battlefront. Sadly, they have now closed their doors following 2 lackluster games (LOTR Conquest and Mercenaries 2, I'm looking at you). I'ts a pity, who would have known what cool game they would have made next3. Lara CroftOh lara, lara, how the mighty has fallen. You used to be the queen of the industry, the most badass chick on earth, and every gamers wet dream(ok most of them since I never really liked you. I like Samus and the original joanna dark(not the trashy xbox version)). Now your just another run-of-the-mill game character whose games have poor camera controls and lackluster puzzles. Now you (and your company EIDOS) have become memories in the long history of the industry. To bad lara, you will be missed.2. Ultima SeriesABOVE: Yes, the invincible Lord British was killed in this game, LIVE.This series was a landmark series in western RPGs. They pioneered many conventions, INVENTED MMORPG and most importantly, put PC games in boxes(not stupid plastic bags). If it were still here, it would make it the longest running RPG series EVER, if EA didn't hold the licence and Lord British himself(Richard Garriott) leave with some of the rights. Maybe some day the next great ultima game may come. But until that day, we still have Final fantasy and Mass Effect.1. Duke NukemHail to the kin.. No DNF. Nooooo.Yes, there may never be a Duke game coming out any time soon. Not only did the developers of the long awaited game (3D realms) get closed down, they got sued. Now like Lara croft , any hope in his comeback is as dead a the dodo. To think, after 12 years, a character, a game and a franchise reach such legendary infamy, and then die(hilariously).EDIT——Also, I don't know what some of my badges mean. I checked REQUIEM'S PAGE(linked from the FAQ page) but all the pictures are in code. Could the mods please fix this so I can see what old bean means.
There was a 3d Jazz Jackrabbit. It was never released and wasn't really that great.
