I mentioned earlier on Cesque blog that I would be animating one of Rez sprites and posting the finished image here on my blog. Since I am one of the few 64digits users endowed with Flash CS3, I decided to try out a technique I have been meaning to use for my sprites.
First I took one of rez's sprites (the soldier on his banner) broke it up in to some segments using fireworks (have photoshop, but prefer fireworks).Next, I imported the bitmaps into flash and arranged them in layers. Now I can animate them with tweens for some smooth movement.http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_11Mh1L2OXko/TGWxO_92AyI/AAAAAAAABBw/x10dY3ZdfqE/s1600/rez_m2.PNGNow for the tricky part. You now have to export the entire move as a PNG sequence in order to preserve quality. To do this, I choose File>Export>Movie. After selecting the directory I set the following options to ensure quality.http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_11Mh1L2OXko/TGWyeB9hsAI/AAAAAAAABB4/Q8TfBqjUWug/s1600/rez_m3.PNGNow I have a bunch of PNG, I just simply Import all of them into any favorite gif making program (game maker can do this).Voilà, now I can animate high rez sprites without any loss of quality.
I love that second one, although his leg appears to detach from his body
Whoops, didn't see that initially. Don't need to fix it though since this is just a mock up.
Those animations have real character. Good stuff.
Excellent. Only needs a little tweaking as opposed to lots :D
Beautiful :')
@cyrus
I tried using the sk2d engine. It works really well, but gets messed up when you try changing the image_xscale. It works best on really large bosses.Cyrus, I do believe you've saved my ass. I've been wishing for a skeleton system for GM for ages.
I could always load the sprites externally. Personally I have no problem with people seeing some of my resources.
