I just disabled Skype's ability to open when windows starts.

Occasionally I Skype friends back at home. MSN/Facebook chat works for everything else.
I have it, but I very rarely use it.

I have Skype and will be making the transition when Microsoft forces me to. I've also been told to use IRC but it's not anywhere near the same as the usual IM.
