…ok, so I decided that the DoC graphics engine was not powerful enough to handle what I was trying to do with the game. So I decided to use a different, more powerful graphics engine, using Xtreme3d 2. And so I am in the process of creating and implementing this engine. The rendering process is mostly independent of the gameplay itself, so this change will not require a complete redo of the game. However, I think that the changes that this new rendering engine will bring will definitely be worth it.
Some things that rEngine 2 will allow:* 4x map sizes* 5+x faster render speed* Water with refractions and reflections* True world lighting* Detailmapping on terrain* Skyboxes* Better lighting options* Smoother camera* Fires, ammunition, etc. with dynamic lighting effects* Lens flares* Smaller file sizes and faster load times* Using my existing models, which can be converted to .obj form and used in-engine.It shouldn't take too long to combine rEngine 2 with the existing game; and I believe the results will be beyond anything yet done with GM.
Zomg waffles. That's awesome… I don't even bother learning X3D - I can't print out that many pages. Well, there's the purpose of school… =P
Yeah, ever since I formatted, I couldn't print from my computer. I lost my flash drive too. And my parents don't want me using their computers. D=OOoh. Nice.
Even though you're sorta disproving this, I think Game Maker is best to be exclusively 2d. But after seeing what you're doing… Well… My mind has changed.I hope my video card will be able to handle this (couldn't handle d3d), but don't fucking use the lensflare
whatever you achive in speed over d3d wil X3D, you loose with lensflare, and a lot more. I get 7/60 with lensflare, 59/60 withoutBut of course, it will be able to be turned off! I normally build my games as a process of adding everything I possibly can to a game, and then putting in options to allow the user to pare it down and still play it. Gives the game a long lifetime.
Sounds great… I might consider learning X3d…
you cant be serious abacus… are you sure that your method isn't inefficient?
im learning d3d9 within c++… it really is a pain in the neck, but powerful beyond all belief.I want to learn X3D… nobody uses it, even though it's clearly superior to D3D.
what's my method?
