The Pass: AI

Posted by omicron1 on Feb. 11, 2008, 11 p.m.

Lotsa text in this one, sorry.

Anyway, my Pass AI is approaching competent levels. It will now:

* Gather resources intelligently (Goes for the best, closest ones first)

* Build counter units/buildings to your forces

* Attack when it has a sufficient number of troops

* Retreat if the situation is going badly

* Defend its base if attacked

It's actually quite hard to beat.

Currently, gameplay for The Pass is rather tense. Your goal is to destroy the opponent's flag. In order to do this, you must leverage more, better, correct troops from your base. In order to do THIS, you must gather resources. Resources can only be gathered by your Hero, so you must go into the wilderness and forage. Only, if you should be attacked while you're away, you could easily lose the game. Same with if you launch an attack, emptying your base of defenders - anyone can come in there and kill you. This makes for a rather tense buildup period followed by frantic combat. In effect, the state of the game decays over time - the weapons at your disposal become more deadly, the jenga tower of power becomes less and less stable, and eventually collapses.

Estimated game time: 15-20 minutes.

Miscellaneous facts:

* I don't know what kind of graphics I'll end up with. The game itself can be attached to a number of different systems if need be.

* I have plans to support up to 4 players (human or not), as well as multiplayer.

* There are 10 different types of units planned for the game.

"Woo, real AI in a GM game!"

Not that uncommon. Well… Actually, it is; too few people (me not included) don't make AIs for games.
