…or something.
To Ludamad and mastermind: My resume:I was a member of the old forum (2002-era) for a year or two before joining the new forum in October 2003. I have used every version of GM from 4.3 to 6.1. I have gotten nearly-100% positive reviews, placed in one contest, won one contest, and have 2/3 of the votes in another ongoing contest. I have worked on over 15 public projects, and finished 9 of them so far.My projects include:Missionary <strategy>'87 <platform>Shadowland demo <platform>V-bomber <platform>Racer 3 (6th place in official competition) <simulator>Mahouts <strategy>Swinger <scrolling shooter>T.A.E. Worlds <text-adventure>Eidolon <platform>Termina demo <top-down rpg>Empire of the Stars TBS demo <strategy>V-bomber 2 demo <platform>Missionary 2 demo <strategy>Marbles <puzzle/strategy>Omicron Modeler <tool>Empire of the Stars beta <strategy> (1st place in TGG's strategy contest)Gel demo <puzzle>Modeler 2 demo <tool>Mod for a Day <arcade>Lions of the Atlantic demo <open-ended simulation>Now, on to blogging.Recently, I have been working on the graphical look&feel of Lions. To that end, I have added the following advanced features to my engine:* light glints off water at sunset* shading on ship models* real-time cast shadows* procedurally-generated terrain featuresIf you aren't familiar with Lions, it is my upcoming entry into the GDnet 4 elements contest. You can see an image of my project here:http://img371.imageshack.us/my.php?image=terrainfeaturesshadingil0.jpgMy other project, EotS, is in the beginning of its beta-testing phase. When it is released, it will be a 1-2 player RTS featuring a focus on units over economy, and on drawn-out tactical battles rather than unit rushing.
Your Lions game looks nice so far
Upload something here :)Oh, and welcome to 64dMarbs: I was looking for a game creation tool some five years ago and found this.
Hobo: I already submitted something. It's just taking a while to verify. That screenie looks awesome. Hopefully your submission will be approved soon :)
damn, that game looks neato
Thats like extremely super awesome looking…. This isn't even finished yet? Cause I figured that a work in progress would look more like square blocks sitting on a blue plane, but this is extremely super awesome looking.
Hello there.
You seem like a very experienced user of GM. I personally have only been using GM for 2 years, and have made 2 crappy games, one mediocre, and none of my games have ever been finished since…But thats enough about me..Wow your using 3d,and extrememly well I'm astonished. It is rare to see a GM game of that quality, it almost looks professional..Good luck with the contest, you should win it for sure…This is a contest of professionals. Most entrants will be using C++ or other commercial languages. I can't win the contest on graphics. Thus my game features a lot of gameplay features as well:
* All of Europe to explore and trade in* over 100 resources to trade* dozens of cities* dozens of ship types* tactical combat with up to 18 ships in a battle* Buildings to construct, shipyards to build ships, random missions to go on, pirates to hunt, merchant fleets to terrorize… it's a large game.Wow… But so long as you can keep the game from becoming too complex(some people fall into this void..) it should do good against its competitiors.
And don't worry about C++ users, they may have the graphics, but there are some really good GM games out there like Hard Hat (thats on Game Hippo, and with a good rating)As I say, its not the limitations of the software that are the problem, you can work around that, but it is the imagination of the creator himself that can hinder success.I'm just rambling on here now… you can just ignore me…
