I have been developing a little lighting engine of my own as an experiment: basically, what is it possible to do with GM in this context? So far, I have a very basic light/shadow map, and a bloom filter on top of that. I don't have cast shadows yet; I fear it may be at best a prohibitively slow process.

Sweet, but you have to make it clear what makes this lighting engine different from everyone elses, or else why would people use it?
The lighting engine looks great, does it lag at all?
