F-60 progress

So, given this project has been going on for quite a bit of time (since the beginning of the summer actually), I think I feel compelled to tell everyone at least SOME information about the game itself (my Christmas gift to everyone :D).

All right, so Project F-60 (I'm probably going to change the name) is a side-scrolling shooter reminiscent of the SNES types of games such as Axelay and the like. This game is your typical arcade-y scrolling shooter that doesn't necessarily introduce huge original ideas (except some puzzle-oriented areas), but what the game pretty much gives some quality aspects in every asset of a scrolling shooter.

First off, the graphics. The first point I'd like to make in this game is that it marks the beginning of my full-time use of Pixelart in my games. I recently discovered how pixelart can truly make your game professional-looking if done right, and with practice, Pixelart is actually rather easy to use. I noticed that 99% of SNES games in the era used full-blown pixelart and I was actually surprised at how some artists used regular pixelart techniques in many of their games. Most people probably knew this already but I was just discovering this when looking into this type of drawing, and of course it sealed the deal when it came to my new style of drawing.

Second comes the basic premise of the game. The shooter will borrow many aspects from the Contra series (despite the fact that this one is not a platformer). First off, the game will be divided into 8 stages, no saving and a limited amount of continues (maybe, depending on how hard the stages are). This style I figured is more similar to the early era of early SNES games and many arcade games, and my game pursues (or attempts to) these types of games. Secondly, there will be 6 different weapons (some of them borrowed from the Contra series as well) complete with the coveted dual-weapon feature (you have two weapons and can equip them with different powerups). I also made up a little "Helper Bot" system, where six different objects follow you around helping to destroy incoming enemies in their own different way. There is no energy bar and can be hit three times before losing a life (a little generous from my part given scrolling shooters usually have 1-hit kills).

Music will not be written by me, as I obviously posses 0 abilities in creating it. However, I'm going to have someone (I don't know yet) create it for me if they want to and can do it. The soundtrack will mainly consist of trance techno blasting through all 8 stages, and I already have some songs in mind that can be based off of to create the music. I'm going to ask someone from 64Digits probably to do so for me if anyone is interested, but I don't want to have someone make it for me now given I want that to be the LAST thing I do for the game (I want to be %100 sure I finish this game, although now I'm 99% sure I will :D). If you're interested, you can say so, but it'll take some time before I'm done with the game.

And for everyone's viewing pleasure, here are some screenshots. I've fought against showing them given they will probably ruin some of the "surprise" elements as far as stage settings go, but I figured that I'll have to show them some day.

If you have suggestions, feel free to post 'em and I might consider 'em. Hopefully at least one person will anticipate the game in some slight sense.

You need music…Sweet! I just made a blog to see if anyone needed some music. In the blog is an acostic guitar song I wrote, but I can do electric and am working on my techno skills. Please check it out.
