Is 45 MB too much for a GM game?

I'm just about finished with that one project I started 4 YEARS ago (lol), but I have a predicament: I spent countless hours making this kickass soundtrack, but the problem is that even with extensive compression on the tracks the total game file size is about 45 MB.

I've been out of the Game Maker loop for a very long time, but last time I checked even 20 MB was completely unheard of. I'd like to know if 45 MB is just so completely out of whack that nobody would download the game. To be honest I don't really care if nobody downloads the game just because of the file size; I finished the game mostly for myself rather than for the community. Still, I'd like to know how the file size fits in the general scheme of things. Something to keep in mind I guess.

On that note, for those of you interested I'll be uploading the game in the next couple of days. I'll also be making a video walkthrough of the game on YouTube and also put up the soundtrack for download to those interested in listening to the music by itself (yeah, right :P).

Peace.

Make a version without music available, and for me I don't notice the file size until I'm already downloading it.

Don't tell people it's Game Maker until after they've downloaded it =p

Can you send me what was in my soundtrack if you still have it? I might be able to use it if you don't have any use for it.

For me, I don't care too much about the size, as long as the result is an enjoyable game. I'm very interested so to speak, and I'd like to see this game.

It depends. If it is a long game, or just a pretty short one. People dont like to wait that long unless its a pretty dang good game!

what i would do, is maybe make LOOPS of sections of some songs. it still sounds good if you do it right with certain songs. (and of course compress to OGG or MOD)

20 megs is reasonable for a decent game. just dont announce it boldly lol

Length of the game and replay will make up for a big download, otherwise you might want to split the music into an optional file.

If you don't say its GM then they'll think its really impressive ;)

Split the file. You're going to have problems finding a place to upload the entire thing anyway.

I might be wrong, but 45 mb ain't a problem unless you don't have external file loading (in this case, the music), as the initial loading time would be loooong. Besides, it's 2010, 45 Mb is close to nothing connection speed-wise.

Short answer: Yes.

No, really, decrease the bitrate of the music, or at least make a separate low-quality version. It's a GM game, 20 MB should be an absolute max, especially if the majority of the size comes from music.
