Rant-n-Rave #16

This one issue has been nagging at my noggin for many a time, I cannot comprehend how I managed to not remember this for 15 RnRs.

There's many people around the gaming communities (of which 64D is sadly included) that are atheists. So what? Who cares? I don't care to be honest. I don't care what belief or religion you have, IF any (I myself, am Catholic). However, what I DO care about is about people not respecting others' beliefs, and I find this to be extremely annoying especially when there's "assumptions" around.

These "assumptions" go both ways: religious people and atheists. These are basically assumptions from others that everyone in the world and their brother believe in what you believe, so people start a-preachin' about the Lord in the middle of a conversation that has nothing to do with religion, as well as religion-haters who berate everyone's religion every two blinks of an eye.

So yes, you don't like someone's religion, if any, we get that. I don't care if you hate God, Allah or whatever. You can have all your own beliefs about anything. If everyone in the world thought the same all the time, this world would be one boring place. But you people (I'm talking about the "assumers") need to learn a little word called "respect".

Respect is a civilized, humane action of educated people. I'm in disagreement with others a lot, but I never go into a petty argument with phillipic after phillipic because someone doesn't agree with me. Yes, I DEBATE about it, but I never tell someone they suck at life or they're wrong because their beliefs are different than mine. That is RESPECT, and a lot of people in the gaming communities need to learn how to use it.

I am SICK of people saying "I'll pray that you won't go to hell because you don't believe in God". I am SICK of people saying "I cannot STAND anyone that doesn't believe in ____". I am SICK of people saying "I hate God, and you're stupid if you believe in him". I am SICK of people saying "I pity you because you don't believe in ____".

That is not respecting others. That is a "smart" way of saying "You're stupid because you don't believe the way I do". Do you want to know how petty that sounds? That's just like not respecting people's opinion. It's just like saying "You're stupid because you don't like XBox". Highly opinionated? Yes. All the time people are frowned upon who state opinions as facts. Then why do you do the same for religion? Why does it having to do with religion automatically make it fair for you to state YOUR opinons as facts?

Learn something, people: You don't have to like everyone's beliefs, but LEARN to respect others' opinions. It really makes a bad impression coming from YOU whenever you do that. You're not sounding cool, like a smarty, or whatever. You just sound like an uneducated fool who never learned to respect others.

I try to ignore such discussions because it ends up with someone getting warned.

Exactly. There's this kid, Devohn, at my school. I hit him cause he won't shut up, trying to persuade me to go to church.

I expect people to respect my religion and in return I'll gladly respect theirs. But I agree with you, no one should have beliefs jammed down their throat. It's a choking hazard.

//I am SICK of people saying "I pity you because you don't believe in ____".//

Mr T would be perfect for that.

"I pity the fool"

Eternal, you've argued with me when i tell people not to do that, so it really isn't a point…

Eternal 18 years, 3 months ago

What? I have argued with you when you have told people that they cannot say anything about religion. I have no problem with people talking about it, or discussing it, but forcing it onto someone is competely different.

And what isn't a point?

i'm not going to argue, i'm just going to point out that i've just told people not to do that, not that they cannot say anything about it. if i did, i'd be dictator of Antarctica by now…
