Rant-n-Rave #20

The Hollywood industry has since many years been declining heavily. It's pretty much like a disease. Everything was going fine until one genre of movies started to go down the drain, then another and then another. Long ago horror movies were infected and now they're at their worst (gory =/= scary. It's just a cheap way to scare people). Comedy movies are infected since those times also (obscene =/= funny. Real comedy doesn't rely on vulgarities). Just now, however, cartoons are starting to go down the big drain fast. How? Through the "awesome" fad of CGIs

What are CGI's? Why, it's the newest thing to hit the cartoon industry (literally). They're computer-animated cartoons that don't rely on old-fashioned hand drawings, but rather 3D models and such. But just why do CGIs suck so much in my opinion? Well, just to clear things up, not all of them suck. In fact, Pixar is the first and only one CGI company that should be allowed to do these. Why? Because they know what they're doing.

All the other companies think that computer animation IS the cartoon industry, and now you're just an outdated old fool who doesn't know the newest trends if you don't use them. You're going to be left behind in the dust because CGIs will replace the hand-drawn cartoons in no time.

The above reasoning is absolute manure. These companies (*coughdreamworkscough*) think that just because the cartoons are CGIs means that they will sell. The result? Crappy, uninspired computer animated movies that have no substance, no actual story and no movie whatsoever.

Big culprit: Barnyard. God do I detest this joke of a travesty of a movie. Their "attempts" at "comedy" are extremely outdated, not at all funny and just simply uninspired. I read an article in the New York Times some time ago where it said that even the kids themselves weren't amused by these types of cartoons. One girl quoted Barnyard by saying "it was, I don't know…boring". Get this folks: not even kids buy into this crap, so they're not even fooling them.

Pixar, however, knows what it's doing. They're trying hard to make the eye appeal dazzling while keeping the movies charming, lively and just plain fun.

These other CGIs don't want to surpass their previous movie ("Flushed Away" looks like something that could've been done in 1995) and just expect their movie to sell just because it's in 3D.

Dreamworks, however, likes to take this crap up to a higher level. Not only do they suck(except for the first Shrek), but they also shove them down your throat. They make a freaking scandal when movies like Madagascar are coming to theaters (commercials and ads up the wazzoo), then that it's IN theaters ("already seen it? Watch it again!!!!), then that it's coming to DVD, then that's it's out on DVD. Dreamworks makes each of their movies a slow and painful torture from the minute the first movie theater previews start popping up.

I say that CGIs are nothing but a fad, and I say to let this freaking fad die already and bring back the old-fashioned drawing cartoons where the ACTUAL movie is the one that people actually pay attention to. Only Pixar should be allowed to make CGIs because they're the only ones who don't see this animation technique as a novelty, but simply as another way to animate. They know that there's more to a movie than these funky 3D models, that there's an actual movie and plot that you have to pay attention to.

But until then, we'll just have to swallow every piece of tripe that these inexperienced animation studios give us.

Toy Story kicked ass when it came out.

man does Pixas know what they're doing, since Toy Story they've been kicking major ass in the CGI industry. Dreamworks is RETARDED, hell, the only good movie was Shrek, and Madagascar was ok…

Barnyard is an insult to all the genres it's classified in, what's more disturbing than a bull with utters, it's like a guy with breasts…

Hell, I thought for SURE Cars was going to suck ass and that Pixar had followed Dreamworks in stupidity, but they actually managed to make a bad concept to a great movie.

Worst CG animation movies out this year:

The Wild

Barnyard

Any unknown crap that I don't care to mention

shit, Kaz took my comment… oh, and btw, Toy Story came out 11 YEARS ago… you'd think that something would be done…

11 years already? Wow, and it still doesn't look that bad.

Barnyard SUCKED ASS. Case closed.

I think I maybe chucked once that whole two hours.

I also agree that Toy Story is STILL more appealing than most of Dreamworks' crap.

All holywood can come up with now is a-black-guy-meets-the-white-guy comedy. Cheap.

And they overexpose their actors… instead of a 20 second scene where the actor/actress finds something, it's a freaking 5-10 minute scene where they find the thing… That's why movies suck now, video games are also converting to the dark side, which is extremely sad…

I liked "Over the Hedge", a dreamworks production. I agree that they're only other good CGI movie was "Shrek 1" too. The rest blew.

Anyways, I don't have a problem wth CGI animation, even though abunch of recent GCI movies sucked, I can only think they would suck worse if they wern't CGI animated. I agree it's wrong to produce a movie GCI with not actually producing a good script, relying on CGI to make their movie good. But they'll soon find out that they still have to work on otherpart of the movie besides the animations.

Ah yes. I liked Over the Hedge a lot as well.

Dreamworks, meh. I liked Shrek 1, but my heart goes to Pixar (Nemo, Toy Story, etc.). After all, Steve Jobs had a hand in it's conception!
